Nancy Reagan described Ronald Reagan's Alzheimer's as the long goodbye.  I understand now.
I visited my mother two weeks ago.  She doesn't remember.  She's pretty good at faking it, though.  But I think that she's now to the point where she's stopped doing that.
I'm sorry about your parents, too.  I wasn't prepared for this.  I guess none of us are no matter how much we hear about it.

Janet,
I, too, lost my Mother 2 yrs. ago to Alzheimer's after almost 8 yrs. with it.  It is the hardest thing I have ever been through watching her slowly but surely become someone else.  Thankfully, even though she had no other medical conditions, she slipped away quietly during the night.  What a blessing for her and for us too.  Still, you are never ready.  I really think she willed herself to die.  My prayers will be with you as I know what you are going through.  Be safe.

Blessings,
Carol

Thank you, Carol.  My mother lost her best friend to Alzheimer's a year and a half ago.  She had been in a nursing home for several years and had gotten to the point where she didn't recognize anyone.  And now my mother's going through the same thing.  It seems like there's an epidemic.  And you never know who will get this terrible disease.  I'd better start the cross word puzzles!!!!

Thank you, Mel.  I'm thinking of you, too, with all that you have going on.
I was so upset with my mother when she announced to my father that I had started my period.  I wanted to hide for the rest of my life!!!  I got over it.  I used what we called mouse mattresses (Kotex)!
