UGH...I guess I just need support
Glad you came through it all O.K., Mel ..
Query: is it possible somehow that the particular lobe of the thyorid could have "regenerated" over all those years? I would ask your endocrinologist about that possiblity .. Stranger things have happened with the human body (I once read of a person who actually grew a full 2nd set of adult teeth!) ..
In any event, I hate to be the bearer of bad legal news, but as a PI and med malp lawyer of 16+ years experience now -- your retained counsel (should) eventually inform you that Texas has a STRICT two year statute of limitations on medical malpractice claims (blame it on the "tort reform movement" of a few years ago and the "medical malptractice ins. crisis" in our state ) .. Even the common law "discovery rule" was abrogated in those cases by statute, meaning that the clock starts ticking when the doc/surgeon messes up, regardless of when you actually discover their blunder. Your only chance of a recovery might be against any endocrinologist (or PCP, possibly) who examined or treated you in the past two years and yet failed to detect your remaining thyroid lobe during that period, if the failure to do so fell below the standard of care for such pracititoners in those cir****tances (but who would think that a surgeon would have failed to remove all the thryoid and to check for that possibility? ) Then it becomes the question of what serious and permanent harm did that failure to detect the remaining lobe during that period cause you to suffer? Fortunately, you didn't suffer any such lasting bad effects, apparently .. Still, I wish you the best of luck with pursuing it ..

Good Question~No your thyroid can not grow back, however, IF thyroid tissue was thought to be dead(like I thought) it can trigger hormones at certin times...I asked this question multiple times through out the last 10 years...
reason being I was told that a piece of tissue was left in my vocal cords after the removal of the right and left true vocal cords during the thyroid surgery...this was one of the reasons for radiation.
As far as my current PCP I have labs and neck checks every 3-6 months for the last 10 years....NOTE the reason for being SHOCKED there was never any indication to run any other tests then the standard t-3, t-4, thyroid antibodies, and t-7...for the last 9 years my labs have been perfect....something did medically happen over the last couple of months and my doctors sent me back to my specialist.
Fortunately, I have not had any "major" set backs this time, however my chances of another thyroid storm are high enough and that is what scares the crap out of me!!
Thank you for the legal advice, I will mention this to our attorney~

thank you julie~I can not express enough importance to get copies of all labs and transcripted notes (might have to pay of these) but damn WE have to fight what we want; Paul and I went in there with our case and the damn specialist would not get off the fact all of it took place in April of this year.....We looked at him told him to remove himself for the room and come back when my medical files READ...(that was a red flag to me with this doctor)he comes back in and states Oh this is an on goign thing from 1999.....ummmm YES
Doctors you either love them or HATE them....

Mel,
Lord O'Mercy!!! I've never heard of such. Prayers that the report turns out of, and if there are a few cells, we will just pray for a speedy recovery! I'm on 150 mg of Synthroid a day and have been not so consistent on taking it at times. But sure can tell when I don't I did not realize that your Thyroid affects so much in your body. You hang in there. You will be ok.
Your loved!
