Daily FRUIT intake....

On a daily basis how much fruit do you eat and what kind? I exercise daily doing at least cardio plus 3-4x of those days I do in addition to the cardio strength training, flexibilty, weight training or cardio circuits.

I eat either an apple (1 medium/6oz) or banana (medium 7inch) plus 10-20 grapes and 3 strawberries per day. I never eat an apple and banana on the same day...

I've just started adding FRUIT this week to add some extra carbs instead of eating bread and pastas.

I just wanted your feedback to see if adding FRUIT would be a good idea and what you eat.

Thanks!

I eat a banana about every other day.  Maybe once a week I'll eat an apple or a handful of grapes.

My guilty indulgence is the snack size fruit & yogurt parfait from McDonalds.  Please don't tell me the sugar content because I really do not want to know.....but, I only do that about twice a month.

My goal is to maintain.

I eat a banana for breakfast everyday, one of the only things that doesn't make me feel bad at 5am. On the days that I workout I have a protein shake that has 1/4 cup blueberries, about 8 small strawberries and a banana with 1/4-1/2 cup milk and a big scoop of protein powder.  For my shakes I use frozen fruit... its just easier and then I don't have to add ice to get it super cold.  I don't see anything wrong with adding fruit it is a healthy snack, but everything in moderation of course.

Fruit is way better than bread and pasta.  I can't say I eat allot of fruit, I do like to add frozen fruit to my protein shakes and have enjoyed quiet a bit of honeydew melon and strawberries this week.

Hey Dana,

I've heard that you are the guru to go to as far as caloric intake and meal planning... I am told to up my carbs, and I definitely do not want to eat bread, pasta and other stuff. I'm working out so much that they said that I need some carbs.  Right now, I added fruit like I posted, but what other options do I have? I also eat 2 serving the thin crisp triscuits.

Any feedback and suggestion you have-- is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jessica

Jessica, I don't consider myself a guru at all, but with the workouts you definitely need to add good carbs to your day for energy.  Tawyna would be an excellent source for eating since she is the exercise queen.

Fruit, veggies and grains would be the best option though so I believe you are on the right track.

I eat probably 3 servings of fruit a day, sometimes more.  I LOVE fresh fruit.  Cheese, cottage cheese, low carb yogurt, and fresh fruits and veggies are staples of my diet (diet as in what I eat daily, not weight loss plan)...and of course lots of lean protein sources.  I'm in maintenance now, but I've been eating fruit since early post op.  I eat strawberries (way more than 3) almost daily, and depending on what I have in the house, bananas, apples, grapes, pineapple, mango, and oranges.  4 oz. low carb yogurt,  a half dozen strawberries, and a banana would be a very typical breakfast for me...with my protein coffee, of course.  Swap out the yogurt for cottage cheese, and the banana for some deli turkey, and that's a typical lunch too.

I still eat the breads and pastas too...in very small amounts if I'm being good.  Like tonight, I had 1/2 cup of spaghetti sauce over about 6 penne noodles (low carb noodles, Smart Taste brand) with a spoon of cottage cheese on top.

I think fresh fruits and veggies are a great idea!!

And I've been addicted to mango since I was at your house.  I can't find it locally cut up though, our Sam's doesn't have it and we don't have Cosco.  I occassionally buy them and cut it up myself, not easy but yummy.  I've also purchased it frozen, excellent in my vanilla protein shake.

That's so funny.  I was eating some fresh mango for lunch and started to text that I was thinking of you. :-)
