Hello Everyone. I had my surgery on April 30, last Thursday. I posted a few days ago saying that I was really neaseaus and not feeling well. I have been in constant contact with the doctors. Basically, I found out I have bad dumping syndrome and it is from anything other than crystal light or water. All I can do is sip my crystal light very slow. My dr tried to get me to at least take jello, broth, applesauce, cream soups, anything for calories, but I cannot tolerate anything. They are acting a bit under concerened I think. They said I am one of those ONE IN A MILLION people that are just very sensitive and not handeling the surgery well. So why not do more? What can I do? He said "its great for weight loss" which bothered me because I don't want to die over it. My pee is glowing yellow orange, I constantly have the shakes (from not eating for 8 days straight), I am dizzy, lightheaded, I get hot and cold flashes, I am very weak, always nauseas, I feel like crap. I have already lost 13lbs since last Thursday and I am sure that sounds normal to some of you, but to me, 2lbs a day is crazy. Anyone have suggestions? Should I force myself to try to tolerate other liquids so I can learn to tolerate solids, or keep with the clears?

Thank you everyone, in advance, for your help and support. You all have been so much help! It really feels good to have your support!

After my first surgery, I was VERY much like you.  It took me for ever to find 2 staple foods that had protien and that I could get down.  The diet part was never very fun.

BUT>>>>I DID DROP THE WEIGHT!!!

And it DID get better as the months wore on.  Wish I had better words of wisdoms for you.

You're right to be concerned.  However, every doctor's plan is different.

My doctor had me on clear liquids for 2 weeks.  The I went to full liquids for a week or two, then oureed foods for a week, then soft fods for a week and then finally after 6 weeks I went to regular foods.

So, that being said, at 8 days if you can tolerate clear liquids you need to get 'em down.  In addition to the crystal light I drank broth, sugar-free jello, no sugar added (NSA) hot chocolate and apple cider, any 100% fruit juice (but it MUST be diluted with water, about 50/50), sugar free popcycles.  When I started full liquids I added in protein shakes (made with milk, water, juice or crystal light), cream soups, carb control/NSA yogurt, NSA pudding, skim milk, and NSA soy milk.

Did your doctor not give you a meal plan for the first few weeks?  Did you see a nutritionist?   If so, call them and ask for advice.

Only you know your body.  If you feel that something is wrong, then be the squeaky wheel.  It is possible that if nothing is going down - like it's stuck - that you have an obstruction or adhesian and you need to be scoped.

Leep in touch and let us know how it goes.

Thanks. I saw the nutrionist. They had me on a plan of 2-3 days of clears, and then mushy foods. However, I cannot get passed the clears. I tried sugar free jellos, broth, pops, etc. It has to be crystal light or water or water and 100% apple juice (50/50). My nutrionist said I should be on the clears more than a week.
I do not think I have an obstruction, I think I am that sensitive like he said. I threw up for the first few days and all I had was IV Fluids. They almost kept me another few days but I was too worried about my kids because my husband is deployed and I flew my mom in to be with us and watch the kids, but she is really sick.
Thanks. I guess I will figure something out.

The only thing I could offer other than sympathy, is Isopure Protein drinks.

They are clear liquid and I lived on them for the first month.  I got mine at the Vitamin Shoppe.

Good Luck and hang in there, this too shall pass.

One thing that came to mind for me, was that I could not do anything to warm.  It all had to be ICE cold.  In fact I LOVED crushed ice those first few days.  Even when I went to protein shakes they had to be REALLY cold.  I didn't start doing warm stuff till about 4 weeks out.

All the suggestions above are really good ones.  I know it sucks not being able to get anything down.  And feeling like crap, doesn't help either.  Keep trying different things, maybe dilute your juice even more? I couldn't do nutrasweet at first either.  Also have you tried Propel? I could do the Lemon and Orange ones. Grape tasted like cough syrup and that was just nasty!

Keep sip sip sipping! Keep posting and most of all keep bugging your doctor.

Did your doctor give you anything for nausea??

I did see Crystal Light popscicles at Walmart the other day.  That might give you a change from just drinking it.

I wish I had better suggestions for you.  i know I was on clear liquids for a week.  I was so scared to try anything at first.  Maybe just try a bite of something every once in a while.  When that seems to work then try two bites.  Don't try and have a meal yet.  Maybe then you could get in a few more calories.  We all heal differently so it may just take a little more time for your body.  I know my surgeon told me to think about my new pouch like a baby's tummy.  Baby's can't go right to solids and neither could we.  Just take it slow and easy.  It will get better.

Like another poster said I used the Isopure bottled drinks the first week.  They are clear and have around 40g of protein.  I would use a shot glass and sip on it.  I liked it cold.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing.  You are in our prayers.

I agree with what everyone has posted, I also lived on the Isopure drinks for awhile.  Broth was my buddy also I can't stand jello so I stayed clear of that.  But I could make the protein shakes (very watery) and would sip on tha****er and Isopure for the first week or so.

But pay attention to how you feel, if it is scaring you then call your doctor or go to the hospital as you don't want to get dehydrated.

Good Luck and it will get better.  I am almost 4 months out now and have very little problems eating at this point.

Hang in there and Thanks to your family for your husband serving our country!!
