Yep, the State Comptroller's office website is the free and easy way to see what you may have ..
Do NOT get suckered in by those cos. that will send you letters or leave phone messages that claim they have discovered you have "lost property" and offer to sell you info. on how to recover it! Basically all they do is search the state websites for all 50 states, copy out the info., try to locate the last known owner of the lost or unclaimed property listed there, and then get you to pay them money to "recover" it, which basically just consists of you signing an authorization for them to claim that property on your behalf with the state, for a certain $ fee or % of what the property is worth, paid in advance (typically 5%-10% of the value).
