I am scheduled for my surgery Thursday 2/3/11.  Very excited to start this part of my weight loss journey.  Everyone, please say your prayers for me.  I truly feel like I am in good hands at Centennial, Dr. Dyer is the best.  I will keep you informed of my progress as soon as I get home.

Topic: RE: Depressed -- Anti-depressants?
The first year after my wls, I felt wonderful.  There were so many emotional highs...  but then the second year rolled around.  I started fighting depression again, and I fought it very hard for about another year.  I t was quite bad.  I finally got back on Wellbutrin 3x a day, and then last year got on Pristiq.  I found out that I had low seratonin levels, which makes sense because of my hormone problems and history with PMDD.

I would say if you are feeling blue once in awhile, or because you feel closed up in the house a few days, then it might just be a temporary thing.  But if you are having persistent problems that won't seem to go away, then you should consider seeing your doctor and asking for some medicine.

I didn't want to get back on antidepressants.  Some how, I guess I felt that it was a step backward.  Maybe I felt that wls should have cured that.  But, there are times when we just need medication, just as a diabetic needs insulin, or a patient with high blood pressure needs blood pressure medicine.  There should be no guilt or shame in needing an antidepressant.

I hope you are able to reconcile within yourself what it is you should do.

Topic: RE: Plastic Surgery...Dr Reath
I interviewed 4 before deciding on my fourth and final visit -- Dr. Tom Gallaher (gallaherplasticsurgery.com)
GREAT experience on both my BL/BA in June and my LBL in December.

A lady from my support group uses Dr. Reath and another uses Dr. Stephen Smith (all 3 are in Knoxville). Please make a consult with Dr. Gallaher - you will be impressed!

Be happy.

Topic: RE: The WAYYY Long Overdue "6 Month" (Actually 7 now) Update ((X-Post from VSG Forum))
Bekki - I am so glad you are doing well with your sleeve.   It sounds like you know what you are doing and what it takes to get the weight off and that is  good thing.   I remember being at 6-8 months thinking... wow this is pretty good.   Now at almost 2 years out and over 300 pounds lost I can tell you it is the best thing I have ever done for myself.   My only word of caution to you is be careful not to overeat and stretch your stomach too much.  I know I can eat a LOT more food now at 2 years than i could at 8 months.   I have the DS but Dr. Houston made my stomach small the size he makes his sleeves(he now makes DS stomachs a little bigger than his sleeve peeps) but anyway keep up the good work and Dr. Houston only rides your butt because he cares about you and wants to see you do well.   Thanks for the update
