Having a VERY hard time getting liguids in, my pouch doesnt seem to like water and I fear Im going to get dehydrated. Trying crystal light but its so sweet it makes me neaseaus so Im also eating SF popsicles. Not eating a lot either, about a meal a day...

I don't have a solution as to insurer that will cover, but let's work through what you're currently paying. At $1400/month, that's $16,800 a year and you each have a $5000 deductible so you haven't gone to the doctor. That means you're currently paying $16,800 a year and not accessing the care you need. Many physicians and hospitals have reduced rates when you have no insurance and pay in cash up front. I'm not saying drop your insurance, I'm just pointing out that by going through your insurance you could potentially pay over $30,000 out of pocket in a year between premiums and deductibles as opposed to paying the healthcare provider directly. This may be very worthwile especially if you have no big complications or health concerns at present and are looking at more of an annual visit.

Topic: Insurance coverage post surgery
Has anyone found an insurance company that will insure you after you have had GBS?  My husband's company closed and we have continued our insurance policy at a rate of $1400 a month for our family of three.  I seem to be the main reason we cannot get insurance anywhere else.  Every insurance company we have spoken with denies me coverage because of the gastric bypass.  I need help folks because  our deductibles are $5000 a piece and we haven't been to the doctor in two years because of this and the fact that my hubby is still unemployed.  We would love to have a cheaper premium but I seem to be preventing this.  Anyone?

Dr. Boyce is doing my RNY on 6/6/11.  I'll be attending the Fountain City support group for the first time next month.  I hope to see you there.  Looks like that will be 5/19.

I haven't been to the North Knox group but I hear great things about it!

Dr. B? You are in the best of hands..he did my lap RNY, then my gallbladder removal, then internal hernia repair. Excellent bedside manner and very reputable.
Congrats!

Be happy.

Congrats on your loss so far!  Isn't it an amazing journey already?  Keep up the good work.  Enjoy your time off work guilt-free.  You'll realize how fast that time went by as soon as you return to work.  LOL.

No, I haven't been to any support group meetings. I really feel like I find out all I need to know via the DS forum here. No need to waste any more gas :)

I had a DS (duodenal switch) with Dr.Boyce in Oct 2009. He later took out my gall bladder and did a VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy) on my daughter in Oct 2010. He is a reputable and highly respected surgeon. As a physician and person he is compassionate and down to earth. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or want to meet up  and go together to the North Knox group.
