What Protein Drinks Taste Good?
My surgeon recommends the Isopure zero carb protein drinks or the ABB Pure Pro Dietary Supplement for the first week after surgery and then the EAS Advant Edge Carb Control ready to drink shakes or Optisource for the second week after surgery. The last two you can find at walmart or kroger....But keep in mind I'm having RNY not Lapband.
Congratulations on your surgery and good luck!
Remember too, your taste buds will change, so don't stock up too much. I have tried Boost with high Protein, and can only handle just a swollow or two and I then can't stand the taste. I tried another one, and it was the same way. My taste buds have changed so much, one thing I can't stand is sugar free popsickles. I loved them prior to surgery, now I can't stand them at all. Best of luck to you on your up and coming surgery. Always Kathy
I like Designer Whey protein powder. I've tried several flavors and have yet to find one I don't like. I get it at The Vitamin Shoppe. They have a website that will help you find a brick & mortar store near you or you can order online. www.thevitaminshoppe.com
I also like the Revival Soy shakes. I only use 1/2 the recommended liquid when mixing them though. I order my Revival stuff online. So far I've tried 5 flavors of shakes and liked all of them. They also have protein chips that are wonderful for when you get to the stage where you can have regular food. The chips really take care of my craving for crunch and chips but still give me 7 grams of protein per serving.
The only Revival product I have tried and not cared for are the bars. Too high in carbs & calories and too low in taste. I got 3 of them in my free sample pack with my first order so that's the only reason I've even tried them.
I didn't like the Isopure drinks. I tried them pre-op and again post. They just had a metallic aftertaste to me. Others on this board swear by them though. To each his own.
I also found the EAS shakes to be too sweet for my taste.
Susan Jones,
I have yet to buy my protien drinks. I was wondering if any come in flavors? It would be nice to have a little taste with your drink.
But I have a flavored water that has no carbs, calories or anything but does have a great taste. It is AquaCal naturally flavored. My favorite is the Concord Grape it taste like juice when it is water. You can find these at the Dollar Market -A.K.A- what used to be the dollar store. They come four to a set for only $2.00. I found I do not crave any sodas because of the naturally sweet taste without the sugar too.
Your friend,
Tina
The protein powders I use come in a variety of flavors as well as unflavored for adding to soups & such. What you want to look for is one that is low in carbs (sugar) and has at least 18 grams of protein per serving.
The ones I have found that I like are:
Designer Whey in Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, & unflavored. I buy this at The Vitamin Shoppe near Rivergate here in Nashville but they have stores all over and you can shop online too.
Protein Delite in Vanilla Very Berry. I bought this online.
Revival Soy in Chocolate Daydream, Strawberry Smile, Just Peachy, Cappuccino Comfort, & Banana Blessings. I buy all of my Revival products online.
I've also tried and liked the Unjury powder in several flavors as well as unflavored. I've gotten samples of this but have not ordered yet.
**NOTE - all of the above protein shakes have at least 19.5 grams of protein per scoop.
I blend frozen fruit into my protein shake to give it a milkshake texture and to give even more variety in the flavors. Or, blending a tablespoon of peanut butter into a chocolate shake is wonderful too AND gives an extra boost of protein.
You mention flavored water. I really like Fruit 2 O. I get it by the case at Sam's, 24 16oz bottles for just under $10. You get 4 flavors to the case. One case set has strawberry, raspberry, lemon & orange and the other set has peach, grape, cherry & tropical fruit. It's sweetened with Splenda and has no carbs, calories or sodium.
Several of the online stores offer sample packs or even free samples. I would try as many samples as you can to help you find the protein mix you like best. If you don't like the taste of your protein drink, you are not going to drink it like you should so you really need to find the one(s) that you prefer.
Good luck.
Susan
