Dr. Husted MOVING to TEXAS!!!

Well, I am so angry right now I think I could burst! I just got a letter in the mail today informing me that Dr. Husted would only be seeing patients through June 24th. The letter also stated that they would no longer be performing surgery after March 15th (which is somewhat backdated, since the letter was dated March 20th and I only received it today). It goes on to say that Dr. Spaw has resigned -- and they would work out a way to do our follow-up appointments BY PHONE!!! They attached a list of other bariatric surgeons -- NONE of which are even in the state of Tennessee. Excuse me, but, what the hell?! I also just read on Dr. Husted's forum that he is moving to Houston (I presume because it is the "fattest" city in America) -- AND that this plan has been in the works for more than a YEAR! I wish they had told me this BEFORE I had surgery and paid my "lifetime" surgeon's fee that was supposed to include all my follow-up appointments. How am I going to get another surgeon to take me now without having to pay more $$$? I think this explains why I have had such a hard time getting any kind of reaction out of them with all the problems I've been having. They actually sent me for an upper GI in February and have yet to tell me the results. What a great doctor.

wow---------- I dont know these surgoen;s at all.......... but I surely would ask about the follow ups......... and who you are suppose to see now... that sucks................. and the other resigning too???? isnt that peculiar????????????? Now.. you know that there are many other qualified bariatric dr's in TN.............but.... I guess you need to see if they take your insurance...right?? btw- are they the ONLY two that practice there where you go??

Hi Marian, Thanks for responding. Yes, it does suck. What is even crappier is that I was self-pay for my surgery -- so insurance is not going to play any part in this. I am guessing that if I need to see another surgeon (whether in an emergency or otherwise) that I will have to pay more money. Yes, they were the only two in practice at the Center for Morbid Obesity. Dr. Husted is a really well respected surgeon in this area. I can't believe he's just going to pull up and move! I think he's been here for 10 years or so. What's even weirder is the cryptic letter he sent with no details or reasons why he is moving. Even is staff is claiming to be in the dark about it all. On another note, I saw on your profile that you are a native of Cali. May I ask which part? My husband and I are dying to move to the East Bay. We absolutely love it there (and we absolutely hate it here)! We're hoping to pass the California bar when we get out of law school and get the heck out of here! :D E-mail me if you want -- I lived in Cookeville for a while in college.

Marian, I went to CCFOS & clicked on the link where it has other surgeons & that is actually where I found the surgeon that I want. He is through cenntenial, so I don't know if your insurance would cover that or how things would work as far as you already paying for service. Good luck, I'd like to see what happens through all of this.

Wow Marian, I went to the seminar with them but my insurance doesn't cover anything with them? Hmmm, I wonder if that is why I spoke with Ellen on the phone she was telling me that there are two other surgeons who were joining when people were notified of Dr. Spaw's departure. WOW, I am blown away. I just called someone that works with my husband and read to her what you had posted & she hasn't heard anything about this yet, she didn't even know that Dr. Spaw was leaving. So did the letter say that they were actually closing their doors? Or are there going to be other surgeons to take the spots of Husted & Spaw? Maria, if you have read this, this is the surgeon that Jessica's surgery & the one's I went through for my seminar. Jessica wonders if there is something that has happened. Makes you wonder....HUMMMMM????!!!!

Hi, I had my intial consult with Dr. Spaw and have done all of my follow up appointments including my 6 month supervised diet with them. And I was informed about a month ago that Dr. Spaw was leaving the practice and that they would not be performing any surgeries after March 15. But they also said that Dr. Spaw should start performing surgeries again on his own after July 1st. But all of my paperwork and everything has been submitted and I just got approved last week, and Ellen has been helping me switch all of my paperwork and everything over to Centennial for Dr. Houston. They were more than willing to help me find another surgeon in Nashville for my surgery. I'm sure if you call and ask they would be willing to help you find someone in Nashville to do your follow up visits with. Whatever may I happen I wish you luck. Larry,
