Ok, Ladies & gentlemen. I went to the ortho Dr. today. Guess what?? I HAVE to have both knee's replaced. Too far gone for anything else to help. Not even Cortisone injections. What I am wondering is this, what should I have done first? I want my RNY done first because I feel like my pain will lessen with the weight decreasing. I am going to discuss this with my surgeon when I see him on the 22nd. Thanks for listening. Sara.

No advice just huggs. I'm sure whatever you decide, you're gonna feel better. My knees are so much better but weren't that far gone I guess. MY dad needs the replacement but has no insurance. I'm just sharing away aren't I. Good luck and God bless! Beth B. in Chattanooga 319/277/180/150 weighed yesterday!

Oh no Sara! I'm so sorry to hear that! I can't really give you any advice except to talk to your surgeon about it. I was kind of in a similar situation but not as severe. I had some thing going on with my pinky toe making it extremely painful to walk in shoes. I could wear shoes for 1/2 hour at a time and it be to the point where I needed to take shoes off. So anyways, its some hereditary thing where the segments of bone are kind of shifting which is creating this hammertoe type thing... its really hard to describe! But trust me, very painful. So in order to alleviate this problem, I would have to undergo outpatient surgery to remove it and would have to be in a foot cast for 8 weeks. Now, this happened during my six month diet period and I HAD to exercise. I wouldn't have been able to exercise if I had a cast on my foot. So I decided to not have outpatient surgery. During the summertime I wore sandals or flipflops...and during the winter time, I wear shoes only when I need to. Fortunately, I can walk around in my socked feet at work because its extremely laid back there. I only have shoes on for a very short amount of time. For exercise, I did/do water aerobics - no shoes needed LOL! So, I'll probably get it taken care of after I get to a point where I can take the time off from exercising...which probably won't be until after I reach my goal. But I'm hoping that after I get some weight off and my feet shrink, it won't be as painful in shoes and won't need to purchase Wide Widths! So for now and for the next 2 years probably, I'll be shoe free LOL Sorry it was a little long, but just thought I'd share the similar dilemia I was in. Good luck! april

My suggestion would be follow your surgeons' directions. Put my personal opinion would be to get the RNY then while you're out on disability from that, have the knees done. I would think that way would work out best for the rehab that would need to be done for the knees. Good Luck Toni 267/156/130ish
