went to Waffle House
My hubby and I stopped at a Waffle House Saturday night/Sunday morning (it was midnight). Hubby is a school photographer and we had just finished photographing a school dance. He had asked me if there was anything there I would be able to eat and I told him I could have a scrambled egg so in we went.
When they brought my egg it also included a good sized bowl of grits and 2 pieces of toast w/jelly. I ate about 1/2 of the egg and 3 small bites of the grits and I was full.
Hubby put away 2 waffles and 2 sausage patties.
We were laughing as we got in our car just trying to imagine the waitress's reaction when she goes to clear our table. She's going to look at my plate and think "this lady didn't eat anything! I wonder what was wrong with the food."

Hi Susan, when I had my surgery 8 weeks ago, upon my discharge I was given a card from Blount memorial that I show to waitresses and let them know I just had stomach surgery and can only manage a child's serving. Mom and I went out to a local country diner, they gave me a small bowl of broth from pinto beans and some cottage cheese. The pinto beans broth filled me up. I haven't had an egg since two weeks after surgery when I had to be rehospitalized. Now, if I am out with someone, I just take a small plate and take about 2-3 bites from their plate and we're only charged for one meal. I carry that card everywhere now. Be careful and enjoy your new tool.
Always, Kathy
I can understand I am a District Relief Manager at Waffle House. I am 16months out I think. I can eat one slice of wheat, one scrambled egg, one strip of bacon now and a bite of grits. At your stage I could only eat half slice of toast, bite of egg and grits. So, you are doing great! I have that restaurant card, they are great for buffet style restaurants for me so I get charged child's price. People still look at me funny since I can not drink and eat at the same time. I have to wait 30min before and 30 min after. I have found out the hard way if i do not wait and drink.
You are doing great!

I have had a huge problem with the 30 minute rule of drinking. sometimes I forget and take a sip or two. nothing has happened, no hurting or anything like that. I am very blessed since I have never had one problem with vomiting or dumping...but then again I dont eat bunches and bunches, and I stay away from all surgars since I am also a diabetic...which my insulin use is rare now...my blood sugars are almost normal!!! I had my surgery 1-6-06 at a weight of 370 and as of two weeks ago at my gp doctor I weighed in at 298!!! WOOHOO. I still want to start a local get together with the Nashville area people. My warehouse office is off Murfreesboro road and can be used for this..email me.
Hey Lisa,
I have the restaurant card too. I haven't used it yet because when we have gone out I've gotten soup up until last weekend. I'm actually supposed to be on pureed until the end of March but have ventured into soft foods a few times recently.
We usually spend about 4 - 6 hours at a prom (not including travel time) between setting up, taking the photographs and packing up our equipment. By the time we head home we are hungry, tired and needing to unwind. Waffle house has always been a favorite of ours, especially during prom season when we are out until the wee hours of the morning coming back from the event. We've decided in the future Hubby will order around what I'm wanting and I'll just eat a little off of his plate.
I too get the funny looks about drinking. I'll get a glass of water as soon as we're seated, take a few sips, and then set it off to the side so I don't mindlessly reach for it after my food comes.
