Congrats! That is wonderful. You deserve it. I am happy to hear that you are feeling better now too. It seems as if this has been a successful journey for you. I know you didn't have a lot of pain from the surgery and you said you have not been extremely sick since. You are doing great. You have given me a lot of inspiration for when I have the surgery.

April,
No, nothing like that. They did ask what types of diets and weight loss attempts I have done in the past five years. And of course the 6 mth Dr. Supervised diet that is required by my insurance. What do you mean they are asking for 5 years of proven obesity? Is that a requirement with your insurance? Are they basically asking if you have been obese for 5 years? Do you have to have been obese for 5 years to be approved? Have you been obese for 5 years? Will they not submit your paperwork to your insurance company without that? If you have been obese for the past 5 years, I would think a Drs report from an appointment from 5 years ago showing your weight (since they weigh you every time) should work. Call your Dr and have them fax them a Drs report from several years ago regardless of what the appointment was for. Did your Dr not include how long you have been overweight in his letter? You need to find out exactly what Centennial is asking for and what they need. It may not be Centennial. It may be something your insurance carrier is requiring. If you have not been overweight for 5 years, I can not believe that they would deny you for that. That should not be a requirement because you need the surgery now. Why should you have to continue to go through being overweight and get more medical problems for a total of 5 years before they will approve you? You just need to clarify and then you should be able to get them what they need. Stay positive.

Well, in all honesty... I grew up poor.. no health insurance. When I got to college...still no health insurance, graduated from college..no health insurance until a year ago. Therefore, I kept doc visits to a minimum.. until recently. Lord knows I've been obese my entire life but never diagnosed or treated for it. I would just rather avoid trying to hunt medical records from the doctors I've seen in the past...I've never seen the same doctor more than twice...moved around a lot and I can barely remember what I saw the doc for much less their name. Looks like I'm just going to have to do some hunting..maybe my mom knows of some of the doctors I've seen. I did email Jennifer with Vanderbilt a few months ago before I decided to go with Centennial and she said that as long as I had the dr. supervised diet that 5 years of proof of obesity would not be necessary. So I didn't worry about that part. Oh well. Thanks for replying!
