question about liquids

everyone, now I need your help. On this broth and jello diet for the first two weeks, is there a certain amount that I should only be having per meal? My measuring cup broke while in the motel room, and I don't have a clue how much between all of it am I supposed to have? Today I have a little bit of Beefy Mushroom broth, sf jello, and some apple juice. I know it's hard getting in all my water, and I can't be as active as I should be. I don't know how much I have lost the last few days, I don't have a scale. I'm the one who has all the uncertain questions now. I don't know where to start. love Kathy

Hi Kathy. I see we had our surgery on the same day. I hope you are doing well. Im still on the liguid diet as well and my doctor says 4oz of liquid every hour alternating high protein and low cal liquids. I went back to the doctor last week and was told I could drink my low cal liquids faster then that now. Good luck, Kristi

Hi Kristi, So far I have been on just chicken broth, jello sugar free of course, and a small serving of apple juice in the mornings. Now I am able to have jello, beefy mushroom broth, apple juice, and protein shakes plus water, I just had a small serviing of V8 tomoto juice as my potassium is too low. It will be two weeks come Monday and I don't feel I have lost anything, and in fact I feel like I have gained instead.Good luck to you. Love Kathy

Jennifer, it's like my brain went dead. I drink what I can, just found out I don't like Unjury protein powder. I am not sure it's going to stay down. So far I haven't had any problem with the broth and jello. But I also don't feel like I have lost anything. I have been able to drink a little V8 juice tonight because it's high in Potassium. But wouldn't want it very often because of the salt. I am swelling again in my legs and feet, so it's back to the water pills. Bare with me, I'm sure I'll have more questions as they pop into my brain. It was one thing to know the answer when helping others, now this is a totally different thing and I feel lost. Thanks Kathy

Hi sunshine, It sure is good to see your name pop up, again. We sure have missed you around here. My doctor says to try and drink 4oz every 1/2 hour. I had to drink anything I could get my hands on, as I was getting dehydrated. My mom bought me low sodium V-8 and I added a splash of Worstershire sauce. Gave it just enough of a kick. I haven't found a protein powder I like yet. I can't get any of them down. I do love the protein shakes from Edge & Low Carb Advantage. I've gone back to liquids, as I was getting sick on soft solids. The doctor said I was pushing myself to hard. I was retaining water last week, and I started drinking decaf tea, both hot and cold. It seemed to help with the swelling. Please take care of yourself. I sure have missed you. Beth

Kathy, When I was just out of surgery -- those first 2 weeks. I didn't really measure how much I was eating because... I could barely eat a bite or two... If I were you, I wouldn't worry to much about the amount right now -- Just more of the fact your getting your water in because that's way more important then food at the moment. Atleast, that's what I was always told! Take care of yourself! -Katie

Hi Katie, it's so good to see you again. It's been a long while. Thanks about the info. It will be two weeks tomorrow, so I am anxious to be able to start on something else. I've been up now for 2.5 hours. I had a little amount of apple juice, some sf jello, and some chicken noodle broth. Now I have just about managed to drink 16 ozs of Crystal light. Had to go back on water pills, off for the last two weeks has caused me to really swell up. So now hopefully I will start noticing my clothes getting a little lose. LOL, take care and don't be a stranger. Love Kathy
