Smoking question

Hi everyone! I hope you're doing well. I have a friend who is considering WLS. She doesn't smoke, but her husband does. Will that interfere with her recovery? I've heard you aren't supposed to smoke while getting ready for the surgery, but I didn't know if second-hand smoke would hurt her chances. . Also, I have a friend who had the surgery 2 years ago, and she has started smoking. Can someone explain to me why they would want to do this? I'm doing well. I'm 2 weeks and 3 days out. I have started eating soft solids with no problem. I normally don't promote things, but Susan Maria Leach's book, "Before & After", has become my bible. The receipes are incredible. I have bought it for several people. Thanks for the help. Take care, Beth

Hi Beth! It's good to hear that you're doing well. I bought Susan Maria's book from Amazon. I've heard good things about the recipes. We'll see when it gets here! I don't know anything about how second hand smoke would affect a person's recovery. I don't think it would hurt the person no much than it would if she wasn't recovering from surgery. Personally, I don't smoke but my entire family and most friends do so I get a lot of second hand. Why your friend would pick up the habit...who knows. Most people that I've encountered smoke as a "social" thing.... similar to a "social" drinker but it usually becomes more of a habit. I think its ridiculous to do something because someone else is doing it. Thats my opinion though. Have a great day Beth! *hugs* April

I'm not so sure about the 2nd hand smoke -- The best thing for her to do, is ask the doctor! I hope it goes well! As for smoking AFTER WLS -- I have no clue! It confuses me too!
