Exercise question

everyone; I was wondering how soon ya'll started exercising? I'm walking on my treadmill about 20 min every other day. I'm 2 weeks post-op, and I've lost 7lbs. I feel fine, other than the fact I get extremely tired pretty easy. I'm getting in 60g of protein and 40-50 oz of liquid. I'm just really ready to start seeing a significant weightloss. I go back to work on the 30, and I want people to be able to tell I've lost weight. I know that sounds vain, and I'm usually not like this. I guess I thought it would come off a lot sooner, than it is. Take care & thanks for the advice, Beth

Beth, Talk to your DR.'s office about exercise...although I think your treadmill every other day is ok, every Dr has his own plan. Don't worry about telling people about your weight loss, they'll see it before you do. After my daughter had her surgery, I could see it the first couple of weeks in her face. Good luck....don't push yourself, it will happen. Billie

Hi Beth, Congrats on being post-op, it only gets better from here! I was walking at least 80 minutes a day every day from about 6 hours after surgery, and my physical therapist basically told me I should pu**** as much as I could without hurting myself. I was only on a 10lb weight restriction for the first week, and after that, I started doing some light weights (because I already knew my batwings were gonna be huge, lol!). As soon as my incisions healed (around 3.5 weeks post), I started swimming -- I go to the YMCA, they are awesome! -- and now, I am doing either Yoga or Pilates along with walking, swimming and water aerobics classes as much as I can. I had a lot of weight to lose, and did not want to be a "slow" loser, so I really pushed the exercise like crazy, your best bet is to ask your surgeon how much he expects you to be doing at each stage -- he will let you know. More than anything, it is going to be dependent on how much you want to take control of your loss and how comfortable you feel with the exercise. I would say that that is great that you get so much protein in so early, KUDOS to you, but you HAVE to get a minimum of 64 oz of water in to really be able to lose. The water is as important as the protein and exercise, trust me, bump up the water and you will see more loss. Hope this helped! --joanna 325/175/125(someday, I hope!!)
