Just the beginning!

Hi everyone. Kathy hope you are doing well. I went to the seminar at Vanderbilt last night and I have an appointment with the surgeon on the 24th. I know this is just the beginning so I really need all of your prayers. I pray that GOD will allow me to have this surgery if it is HIS will. The seminar was very informative and a real eye opener. I want more than ever to have this surgery now that I have atteded a seminar. Please pray for me. Terry

Hey Terry, We're all here for you!!! I hope that all goes as you hope. Do you have to start a six month diet? Have you checked with your insurance about coverage? I'm working with the Vanderbilt Center for Human Nutritian and there just great there! Good luck and keep us all posted on how things are going! Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline, I have two months left with the supervised diet. I have checked with my insurance and they do cover the surgery but they are really hard to work with so I've gathered all the medical records I can get. Most all the doctors have suggested weight loss to help with the co-morbidities. I can lose some but then I always gain it back plus more. Just keep me in just prayers please!! Terry

Hi Terry, You've picked a great hospital. I'm a patient of Willie Melvin's. I'm 12 days out and doing great. The care I received at Vandy was top notch. I hope you will be as happy as I am. Take care, Beth

Hi Beth. I'm so glad you are doing well. I also think Vandy is a great hospital. One of the nurses that I work with had RNY at Vandy last Sept. She has do extremely well. Dr. Richards was her surgeon. I think she is down 60 pounds now and she looks great. I believe she's on this board. She has been a great encouragment to me. Please keep me in your prayers that my surgery will be approved. Terry

Hey Terry, what type of surgery are you having? Lapband or RYN? Good Luck! Tammy

RNY. I think that will be best for me due to the fact that I'm 70 miles from Vandy and the freguent return trips with the Lapband would be very hard on me since I would have to take off work. Also at the seminar they told us that the Lapband was easier to cheat with and I sure don't need any temptations. Terry

Terry, I wish you well on your journey. Since you have two months left for your 6 mth diet, you are starting with Vandy at the right time. I also used Vandy. I hope to have Surgery in July when I am done with my 6 mth diet. Last year, before I knew I had to do the diet, I started the process. You should know that Vandy will require several tests. Usually lots of blood work, an EKG, a gall bladder ultrasound and possibly a sleep test. So be prepared for them to tell you that. It is standard. We all had to do it. You can be getting all of that in order while you wait for the 2 months to be up. Keep us updated. Misty
