Low Calorie Diet Website?
Does anyone know of a good website for low calorie diets? I am looking for a site that has a "shopping list" and planned daily meals. Also, I am looking for the site to contain calorie counts for foods so I can track the amount of Calories I am eating. I am starting a Low Calorie Diet plan on Monday and I am trying to get prepared. I am starting my 6 month Dr Supervised Weight Loss Plan. I have until May. I am going to try and do good and stick to a good diet and excercise plan (except on my Birthday and Christmas coming up).
Any website Suggestions? I am having a hard time finding a good one. Thanks!
Misty
Hi Misty,
I recently just discovered www.Fitday.com You can keep track of what you eat and exercise and its free. I haven't used this very much because I have already made my own list of "safe foods" that I eat a lot of the time with number of calories and fat grams. Plus my dr. wants to see my food journal, I don't know if you can print from fitday.com. Hopefully, I'll eventually get all these things inputed into fitday as well. It is a little tedious but very helpful. Another website that is very useful is www.calorieking.com. It has nutritional information for anything and everything. I have had a very hard time sticking to my low calorie diet... I just have no will power. Over the past two weeks I gained 2lbs. But my weight always seems to be flucuating and plus I completely sabatoged myself by ignoring the diet and enjoying thanksgiving and then not exercising. When I do, I exercise at the local YMCA... they have memberships based on income so I pay only $24.00/mo. I feel like I'm wasting money!! But I really hope you have better luck with your diet! If you want to get together and walk sometime... perhaps on the weekends, just let me know! As for a low calorie meal plan, I just played it by ear so to speak. My dr. has me doing no more than 1200 calories. I find foods with the lowest number of calories and stay away from things I know I'll not be likely to eat in moderation....Lay's Light Chips for instance...even though they have only 75 calories and 0 fat in one serving.
A typical good day for me includes:
breakfast: 1 Slim Fast Optima (the hunger control version is great. It has 10 g. of protein and does control my hunger from about 9a.m. until 1 p.m.)
Lunch: A lean cuisine or smart one's frozen meal. I typically keep the meal under 300 calories. My favorites are the Lean Cuisine Turkey w/dressing & apples, Chicken and pasta in a basil sauce and Smart One's Meatloaf & mashed Potatoes. I usually have a couple ounces of raw baby carrots and fat free ranch for dipping, a lite 85 yogurt or 2% cottage cheese, apple or orange
I know we're not suppose to snack but always between 4 and 5, I get munchies..usually for something chocolate. A semi-good chocolate treat is the Hershey's Carb One chocolate candy bars. I get the ones with soy crisps (120 calories) That probably doesn't sound very good, but its a very good substitute for a nestle crunch bar. Anyways, I'll have one of those or a couple of Quaker's White Cheddar Rice cakes if I'm wanting something crunchy and salty.
Now for Dinner, I'll have pretty much have anything I want...of course in moderation and use lean, low calorie ingredients. Tonight I plan on making Chicken Fajitas for dinner. If I wanted to have spaghetti, I'll use healthy harvest wheat pasta (180 calories), light ragu (60 calories) and extra lean beef (130 calories). This spaghetti is on my safe list lol If you want I can email you my "safe list" though you may have completely different tastes than me. I'm sure you already know to drink plenty of water. This helps when I'm feeling hungry and its not quite dinner time or its later in the evenings after dinner. Drink water until you feel full or if you have calories left over have a glass of fat free milk. Sorry this is a bit on the lengthy side, but I hope its somewhat helpful. Everyone is different and these things work for me when I'm behaving like I should. My downfall has been eating out since my husband loves to eat out. His favorite is Olive Garden. I think this is why I haven't lost as much as I hoped during my dr. supervised diet. These next six months will fly right by. It may not seem like it now and I thought it would be forever but I'm now in my 6th month starting yesterday. If you need anything, please let me know!

Misty, I asked my PCP for a referral to see a nutrionist to help me. He made an appointment with the dietician at the hospital, I had to pay $25 and she gave menus already prepared for a 1200 calorie diet. I just had to go to the store and buy the food. I would stay away from things high in carbs and sodium. Sodium retains fluids that's weight. When I have scrambled eggs I don't use salt for seasoning I use onion powder instead. I've dropped from 283 to 268 in the last month. The one thing I found, low fat peanut butter is higher in sodium then regular peanut butter. Carbs and sugar are what you need to be careful with also especially if you are diabetic. You'll do fine, just think lean and stick to that. Grilled, baked, broil, or boil, no fry. Love Kathy
