Commitment

I know I'm not the only one in this mode right now but if I get it out there for the world to see, I'll have more accountability and be more likely to reach my goals. I knew going into this that WLS was going to take a lifetime commitment to a new way of thinking about food and eating. But lately I've become complacent, the newness has worn off and things have settled into a routine. Because of that, I've been gaining and losing the same pound and a half for about the last month. Time to re-commit myself to being healthier and staying focused on eating properly. Here's the plan: I've started my food diary again to ensure I get enough protein and water and to monitor my carb intake so I don't sabotage myself on a daily basis. I'm increasing the number of brisk walks I take with my girlfriend, instead of doing it just twice a week, she and I will be out there every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I am also continuing with my two hour long aerobics classes every week. My goal is to be down to 150 lbs by New Year's Eve. That's seventeen pounds in about six weeks. I think it's a realistic goal and will put me in a very good position to reach my surgeon's goal by my surgery anniversary in March '06. Thank you all for your stories, inspiration and guidance, it has given me immeasurable hope that I can be successful and make it to my goals. Toni

Toni, sounds like sound advice for everyone, whether they are pre-ops or post-ops. Thanks, since I will be on the loser side of things. It's one mile from my drive-way to the end of the road. Of course, at first I will be attending Dr. Colquitt's Wellness program for the first three months using a treadmill. Plus strengthening my legs. Then I will be able to walk the street to and from making it 2 miles. Keep me posted on any other things I can do to make sure the weight goes off these bones and stays off. thanks, see you in March, hopefully. Kathy's
