I need to do a medically supervised diet for my insurance. My regular PCP doesn't want to do it and I've tried to contact the office at Dr. Hati's office that did my beginning step to have surgery at Vanderbilt. They will not return my calls, since my insurance turned me down and wants another medically supervised diet. Any suggestions as to who I can go to? I've been working this for almost a year now and would be done with the diet if I could get some help. I live near Nashville. Kay G

Kay, it sounds like you need a new PCP first off. If he won't help you with a dr. supervised diet, then he won't be there to help you after surgery. Your PCP has to be 100% for this surgery not just a little bit. I would start finding a new one asap. I wish you much success with your journey. Always, Kathy

Hi Kay. Vanderbilt will do the Supervised diet through Dr. Hadi. I also have trouble getting return calls from them but dont give up. You should change your PCP if they are not willing to help you. I hope all goes well. Good luck, Misty

Hey, I'm doing the supervised diet with Dr. Hadi. They are busy over there at the office, but they are pretty nice and once you get ahold of them they should be able to help. I have better luck getting someone one the phone in the mornings, so you might want to try then, Good luck with everything! Jacqueline

Hi Kay, My PCP was not the most cooperative either. I did not change until about 2 weeks ago ( I'm now 5 months post-op****pt him throughout the process but I really didn't need him to get through the process or so far after. I went through Dr. Hadi's office for my 3 month medically supervised diet and for some of the test I needed in order to complete my chart for submission. You will definitely need to change PCP's because it is stressful dealing with them when they are not supportive. They will not be encouraging at all. As far as trying to get in touch with the Vanderbilt Center for Nutrition to schedule the appointment to begin your supervised diet, go by there. Someone will always be at the front desk or come out to the desk. If it's not too inconvenient to go by, maybe you should try it. Since parking is free, just go by and express interest and schedule your appointment while you are there. The receptionist can do that. It's just a suggestion.
