My visit with Dr. Hadi
Hey Everyone,
I told ya'll that I would tell you how it went with Dr. Hadi, so here it goes.... he took a look at my blood work ( old and new ) and I explained everything that happened as far as my hospital visit and needing blood. He says it's not abnormal for women my age and weight to have very heavy cycles, but he's surprised that my other Doc let it get so far that I had to recieve blood. My new bloodwork looks great, but I'm still low on iron, which he said is normal since it takes time for that stuff to build back up. I'm doing the six month diet for insurance reasons and he says that during that time I should loose about 20 to 30 pounds ( If I loose that much, I'm sure that my insurance will say, see you can loose weight, keep loosing it that way!!! ) And after that he will recommend me for wls. So overall I was pretty pleased with my visit.
The dietian came in to talk about the program, I had gotten wrong info at my 1st appt. from the people at the front desk, the nurses, and when I called to confirm, everyone told me that my six months would start the 1st time I met with her ( Back in Sep. ) but now I'm being told that no, that was wrong, and my time won't start untill Nov. 1, which is my appt. with some other dietian. So I was kind of fustrated with that misinformation, I would have gone back to my appt. sooner if I had known..... Anyway overall good news, now I just have to put in my six months, get my pych eval, and then hope and pray that I get approved!!!!!
Jacqueline, that's great news. As for the weight loss, that goes towards your overall total weight loss after surgery. The insurance company doesn't look at it that way. They basically look at it that if you can stick to their 6 month program and can only lose that amount, but that you did stick to it, they pretty much will approve you. It's harder for an obese person to lose weight without major help. It just makes it easier for you in the long run during surgery and after. Just remember that's pounds that won't be coming back on after surgery. One dietian sounds like what we call the nutrionist that is required to see, plus that person will be your guide after surgery as to when you can go off liquids, to bland or soft foods, when you can eat a certain type of food, etc. The other sounds like the one that is going to help over see your diet for the 6 month program, don't forget it has to be documented and Dr. Supervised. This dietian will put you on a certain amount of calories per day, you will need to be weighed in at your PCP's office each month for the insurance.
I wish you well, and I know if you can survive the blood problem, you can survive the 6 month program. It's not easy but it will be teaching you proper eating habits. (Don't eat in front of the tv, or 3 hours prior to bed, that helps put the weight on) This will teach you about measuring your food, weighing it, and don't forget to chew it slowly, be sure to put the fork down while you are chewing, drink plenty of water, and excersize, like walking. That will help the weight come off that you have to lose. You can do it, Jacqueline, I have faith in you.
May God be with you on your journey. Love Kathy
Good Luck Jacqueline!
I had to do a 6 month dr. supervised diet as well. I'm closing in on my fourth month and I don't know if I've lost anything really since the scales at the doc's office didn't go above 350!
But it hasn't been very much. The first few months were shaky and I didn't do very well sticking with the diet but now it seems as a light switch has switched on in my mind. I eat healthier foods, smaller portions, and I forced myself to pay for a gym membership which is automatically drafted from my bank account...so if I don't go then I've wasted $30....and I hate being wasteful especially when it comes to money. I don't know if your doctor told you...but I would recommed keeping a food and exercise journal. Write down everything you put into your mouth, the calorie and fat information and any exercise you do...if you walked around the mall at a leisurely pace.... write that down, if you take the steps often... write that down. Every little bit counts!
