Howdy! I am having a revision of lap band to bypass at Vanderbilt and I would love to talk to some of the other people here about their experiences.... I had my banding done in Oct. of 2004 in Clarksville withLindy Hruska and I have lost about 56 pounds but..... I have issues w/ my band so I want a revision to the bypass and I am so excited. I got my ins. approval and everything has been completed so I should know my surgery date on Nov. 18th! They are scheduling for mid-December now. So, hopefully in Dec or the 1st of the year, that would sure help out with those New Years resolutions huh? I want to know all about everything....I am normally on another forum but I didn't know that there was 1 locally for me sooooo.......... I am glad to meet ya'll!!!! I am a chatter bug and I'll talk about anything....Very long winded ....Can't you tell...

Hi Christy, welcome, we love chatty people who like to talk about anything. Me too, my mind goes so fast, that my fingers fly over the keyboard just to keep up. Who's going to be doing your revision? May I ask why you didn't go that route the first time around? I am still a pre-op but should be hearing soon when I will finally have a date. I've waited for 2.5 years, a lot of comorbilities, a rare form of leukemia, and now a surgeon who has agreed to do my surgery. I plan on calling them in a few hours when the office opens up to make sure everything has been faxed over to the office. Keep us posted on this board. Several had Dr. Hruska do their surgery, she will be missed in this area. May God be with you on this new journey, kathy

Hi Kathy, Dr. Wright at Vandy is gonna hook me up... or staple me up as the case may be...hee...hee..! Well......Dr. Hruska convinced me that a band would be better than the bypass for me and I thought about it for about 5-6 months and finally conceded. I gave it a good go and things went well for a while but I have terrible pain where my port is and I have several other problems that are a result of the band..don't get me wrong I have met some awesome people that had lost goodles and oodles of weight and are doing wonderful..but this band is not for everyone...I wish I had stuck with my earlier decision to have the bypass....I need my body to say quit putting that junk in me (dumping)...that was my main reason for wanting the bypass. I feel if I had the will power to pass Wendys and not eat those Frosties till the cows come home...and jump over the moon then I would not have needed surgery to start with!!!! With the band you sometimes the only thing that will go down and not get stuck is food that I don't need! BUT... I have lost 56 pounds and that is a blessing!!! I just called Dr. Wrights office a few minutes ago and they said we are good to go!!!! November 16th here I come... Wow 2.5 years, GARRSH I would have been gnawing on the front porch by then...I researched for a long time and when I finally made up my mind I discussed it with my family and went for it. I haven't really had too many problems....I need to knock on wood....be my luck they will call and say Houston We Have A Problem!!!!! Cancer??? I am proud to know you, You my dear lady are a true survivor and those people are high on my *Deserve Lots Of Respect List*. My Mom In law is a 3 time Fighter and still winning God love her!!!!! It was great to sort of meet you.......I don't think I know any Mullens around here. My Hubbys family are Lights and my family are Reeves'. Let me know when you are coming up and we will get together!!!! xxxooo Christy Dawn Light

Hey Christy! I had gastric bypass on 04/5/05! I have lost 66 lbs and I am doing great! I did have a lot of complications and I was in the hospital for over 2mths. I think the complications had a lot to do with my body though. I saw where you said you need your body to tell you to stop eating....dumping. Well I hope that you are not like me. I have never dumped. I am able to eat anything just not a lot of it. I don't dump though. I can just tell when my stomach is full! I am not sure why.... maybe it is becaue immediately after the surgery I was in the SICU for a month in coma and I had a feeding tube and an IV with all of my nutrients so my body got used to the sugar and such! Some say that I am lucky because I don't dump! I don't know! Well I must go tend to my hubby and child!

Hi Christy! My grandmother lives in Portland! I live in Springfield...anyways, I'm pretty new to the forum too. I'm hoping to have surgery at the beginning of next year. Right now, I'm doing the 6 month Dr. supervised diet soooo.. I have 2 months left (including thanksgiving and christmas) I know I will probably not lose any weight with this...since I haven't yet and its been 4 months of starving and painful exercise...anyways. I have found that just reading others profiles is a great help in providing information and very motivational. Sometimes when I don't feel like exercizing or I think about having something really naughty to eat, I think of this website and all these successful weight loss profiles. The Tennesee forum doesn't seem to be too chatty with the exception of a few I don't do much posting myself as it seems that there isn't really anything to post except the continued torture I'm enduring with this diet LOL. It's not like I've tried every other diet out there, but just the fact that I HAVE to give it ONE more shot ya know? It's like I've been on a diet that never ends my entire life...but hopefully that will change next year. I just hope I don't have any problems with insurance..... Welcome to the board!!! April

Howdy April!!!! How are you? Who is gonna do your surgery and what type are you going to have? 6 months of supervised dieting sucks..Most people who need this surgery have been on a diet most of their lives!!!! HHHMMM...Thanksgiving and Christmas....Dressing... AARRGGHH!! Bread gets stuck and my moms dressing is soooo goood. I will survive!!!! ...After a trip to the ER cause my love affair with dressing will not be stopped....lol Yes I am probably crazy but I have been living in this abnormal earth suit long enough, my alien JLo body wants out....hee...hee... Seriously though talking about your journey will help and make this sooo much easier for you , and you meet some pretty quirky people along the way! You should post what ever you want ...if you having a bad day post it!!! Tell people . most times they are feeling the same thing that you are and just aren't expressing it. So let it out Girl....You know the whole ...I am woman hear me roar...MEOW!! well ROAR....you get the picture!! You always have to give EVERTHING one last shot.... You never truly fail until you give up!!!! Keep your chin up and I am happy to be here..Thank you for the Hospitality.. Let me know if you need an ear to bend, mine are pretty large they kind of just fold on over.... xxxxoooo Christy Dawn Light PS Is your family behind you on this? Are you married? My Hubby is my Rock and you should have one too!!! A Rock...not a Hubby...just didn't come out right at all did it? Well, you get the idea...A support system!

Hey Christy! I'm looking at Vanderbilt to have my surgery, I don't know who yet though...maybe Dr. Melvin, my nurse practitioner knows him and speaks highly of him. I want to have the RNY. I feel that I will do better with it versus the LapBand. But of course....all those decisions really can't be finalized until insurance approves which is after this diet!!! Girl I know what you mean about dressing..... drool..... You know, I have found that writing my thoughts and feelings down in my profile helps too. There for a couple of weeks WLS was CONSTANTLY on my mind and writing it down helped a great deal. Thanks for the ears...I'm sure I'll be using them You do the same... I may not be much of a talker, but I'm a great listener.... I am married...still a newlywed (Aug. 30) My husband is wonderful and is very supportive. He is actually the one who suggested looking into WLS. At the time I thought I could lose weight by myself (I can be very stubborn) without such drastic measures...but I've realized I do need help. The only problem he has is me being in pain post-op. But I've told him that enduring a few weeks/months of pain is a lot better than enduring a lifetime of the pain from being super morbiddly obese. He is my rock definitely!! My family is super supportive. The are just about excited as I am. Have a great night! April

Wow!! You are a newlywed!!! I will be married 2 years November 15th!!! We still act like we are newlyweds. We can be very mushy but Lord we can fight like we been married 50 years too...I understand the stubborn part. You are so lucky to have your Husband be on the same page with you. It took mine a minute to come around. He really got bent when my Dr. said my band needed to come out!! But he know that if he wants children of his own and not to be widowed in the next 10-15 years that this is whats best for us.. I think any pain will be worth it to play outside with my girls and see them graduate school and maybe one day when they are like 85 walk down the aisle after being released from the convent...yeah it would be worth it! I need to look into that profile thing I haven't done any of that stuff yet.. Do we post our weight and stuff on here or what? You have a good night too....toodles! Christy Dawn Light Live Beautiful!

awww.... you have girls??? How old are they?? I want to have children which is one of the many reasons I have decided to do surgery. I don't think I can really have kids now at my weight...not that I've tried on purpose but anyways. I use my profile as a sort of online journal. You can post whatever you want. I posted a little about myself the first time I signed up on obesityhelp.com. Some people even make their page look pretty...which I haven't the slightest idea how to do but some people's profiles are really full of personality. If you don't mind my asking....why didn't your band work for you? I originally wanted to go with the band but I was scared that since I had some much to loose that I wouldn't lose very much with it. Have a great tomorrow! ~april~

Hi Christy, I didn't pay attention to the fact you live in Portland. So does my son, grandson, and daughter-n-law. You may know them, Jesse and Karen Mullen. Their son is sooooooooo adorable at this age. Just wanted to pass that on, as I go to Portland when I can to see them. Let me know by email how to contact you and we can arrange to meet. Love Kathy
