For Diabetics
I am wondering if anyone one has been on Byetta injector with a Diabetic Pill. My chemo isn't causing my blood sugar to go up, it's keeping it low. Almost in the normal range. I crave sweets right now. My PCP ordered this for me, but when I asked the Pharmacy about it, he said it was insullin, but from everything I read on the Webmd it's not an insullin substitute. I'm confused as always. It's for treatment of high sugar levels. Last night I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and OJ, and this morning it was 95, normal range. This afternoon I had a choco. shake and a cheese burger, three hours later when I checked by blood it was 117. So why am I being put on this injector with my diabetic pill? It says it's not an insullin substitute, the Pharmacist says it is insullin, you must get it approved thru TNCare, I'm to give myself two of these shots a day. Won't that make me getting too much insullin? If it's anything like my dad when he had chemo, he was put on shots twice a day and it was causing his sugar to bottom out to 31, he was just about comatose when he was here in August.
If anyone has been on this please let me know if it is insullin, I sure don't need any more problems then I already have. I hate needles, and living alone, I sure don't want to bottom out when I am alone. My PCP says it will take about 6 months to really start doing what it's supposed to do and that's to put my diabeties in remission. I need your help on this.
Thanks, love ya, Kathy

Hi Kathy,
I don't take this but I recently read about it and from what I understood, although it is injectable, it is NOT insulin. It's used to help Type 2 patients who take oral meds like metformin. I just did a search and www.byetta.com should help you out. But I would definitely talk to your physician to ensure it will not cause you problems with the chemo.
