Hi Guys
Just wanted to pop in and ask a couple of questions. I will be relocating in February from Mississippi. I am trying to decide between Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN.
Is anyone on here from around that area? Do you like it? It will be just me and my 25 yr. old daughter so moving out of state is a bit scary.
My daughter is balking at the idea because she perceives Nashville to be nothing but country related. She said there is probably nothing there but Country Music Wannabe's walking around everywhere. I told her that was ridiculous, it was just a huge metropolis and she wouldn't be living inside the Grand Ole Opry or anything LOL
Any tid bits, hints, or insights anyone can give me would greatly be appreciated.

Hi Sue,
I moved here to Nashville about a year and a half ago ( from Northern California, near San Fran ) I thought Nashville was going to be really county and just horrible, with "hill billys" running around every where. I have found that is just not true!!! Nashville is a metro area, I was lost for weeks when I first got here! It really is a great place to live, and go to school for me, and I'm very much a california girl, so if I say I like it here, it means a lot!! Tell your daughter that Nashville is a big town with people from all over. I constitly am meeting people from all over the US that live here now, just the other day my husband came home and was telling me that his boss is from the same town that we moved here from, they even knew some of the same people! lol, it's a very small world and people come to Nashville from all over!!! There is a lot to do here, and the people are great!!!
Hi Sue, I lived in the Nashville area for a while, both my sons live there and they love it. Music wise, anything goes. In the summer every Thursday night is dancing in the streets, every where you go, you will hear different types of music for all music lovers. There is so much to see and do that it's like a vacation day. Great places to eat, different cultures, concerts. It's the heart of our country. I go over every chance I can and spend the weekend with my sons and their families. I live 50 miles east of Knoxville now, but It's only about 3 hours drive. I truly believe you and your daughter will really like it here in TN. Best of luck to you on your relocation. Kathy
Hi Sue,
I am from middle TN (and live about 75 miles southeast of Nashville). However, I also lived in Elizabethtown, KY (just outside Louisville) while my husband was stationed at Fort Knox. I also went to summer school one summer at the University of Louisville. Now, I know my perspective might be a little warped since I'm a TN girl, but I didn't like that part of KY at all (I also lived in the Bluegrass area-- just outside Lexington-- which is very nice and I miss it). Elizabethtown was nice for me only because it was convienient to shopping (which I'm not used to because I grew up and now live in a rural area). However, it seemed to me that Louisville is disconnected from KY. It identifies with Indiana and the midwest, while the rest of KY is a southern state at heart. Even the news in Louisville gives the weather for Indiana. I felt out of place there. Louisville was more difficult to navigate for me, and seemed much more spread out than Nashville. I am currently in law school in Nashville and we go shopping there fairly frequently. The downtown area has been revived in recent years and there are many malls and nice communities just outside the urban area. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you about Nashville or Louisville!
Marian

p.s. I'll be 25 (your daughter's age) in March and I HATE country music. My husband and I listen to a mixture of punk rock and classical (weird, I know). Believe me, you don't have to listen to country in Nashville. It's Music City, but not Country Music City. There's something for everyone here. The only people I see with cowboy hats are tourists!
