1st Appt. with Dr. Hadi
Hey Everyone,
I'm really nervous about the appt. I have on Friday with Dr. Hadi, at Vanderbilt. Has anyone else gone through him? I guess he's going to determine my risk factors and see if I am a good canadate for this surgery. After I see him I will have six months on a medically supervised diet ( because my insurance requires it ) Anyway I'm just wondering what I should expect. I feel embarressed that I have let my self become this overweight, I'm just a little scared and nervous overall I think....
Hi Jacqueline,
I am working with Dr. Melvin @ Vanderbilt. I am very impressed with the care I have received from him, as well as his staff. I have just started the process to see if I qualify for the surgery, and if it's something I'm really interested in doing. I told Dr. Melvin I was very scared and nervous about this whole idea of surgery. He calmed everyone of my fears and told me I had nothing to worry about. I hope Dr. Hadi will be as compassionate. Please feel to contact me. I'd be happy to talk.
Hang in there and good luck on Friday.
Take care,
Beth
Hello Jacqueline,
Don't be nervous about your appointment. Dr. Melvin was not my surgeon (Dr. Richards was) but I had to go through Dr. Hadi and the Center of Nutrition. Dr. Hadi is not overly friendly but polite. He basically performed a general exam provided a general discussion of the surgery and gave me an opportunity to ask questions. He requested all the test to rule out comorbidities or assess current issues. You can have all the test performed through your PCP. He just makes a list. He's not harsh. He didn't scold me or anything like that regarding my weight. So you don't have to feel bad or embarrassed. Afterall, he knows that's what you are there for. After seeing him the first time, I had to go through Their 3 month supervised diet program ( I only met with the nutritionist). After I completed the program I had to see him again for his final approval and sign off (5 minute visit...fully dressed) and that's it. Hope that gives you a general idea. Feel good (not bad) about taking control of your life! Best Wishes!
Lisa
