????? PROTEIN DRINKS
I wouldn't spend too much on them now, most likely your tastes will change. I've noticed that mine are still changing, I'll have something and like it just fine, then the next time I try it I wonder what I was thinking.
What does your surgeon require for your immediate post-op diet? I would stick with that and gradually add other protein shakes as you can afterwards.
Good luck.
Toni,
Thanks for the advice! I really didn't think about changes in my tastes. Dr. Colquitt does have a post-op diet plan but after 2 weeks, I think we can begin with soft proteins including shakes. I also would like to add some unflavored to my broth and sugar- free jello and things like that. I guess that is one of my fears - not getting enough of what I need to stay healthly and have energy to heal and function post-op. It's just the pre-op jitters kicking in ( 40 days left!!! )
Again, thanks for the advice - I welcome ANY tips from post-op patients !!!

Hey Charmin,
I would get samples because I have found that I get tired of the same thing over again. You can order samples at bariatriceating.com and probably smarthealthstore.com i use the nectar proteins but I don't care for the roadside lemonade. When you order from bariatric eating you always get a sample with your order as well. It may be a bit more pricey to buy lots of samples but I think it is worth it to keep changing up. I hope this helps and I wish you a very uneventfull surgery.

What I found that I like is called called Champion Nutrition Whey Protein Stack Chocolate and I have bought mine through a vendor on eBay because I find that it cost less. I also go ahead and buy the 5 lbs size because I already know I like it.
The 5 lbs size has 71 Servings for the Buy It Now Price of $19.58. 23g
of protein per one scoop with 4 to 5 ounces of cold water serving. No
aspartame. No fillers. Low lactose. Mixes instantly! No blender
required (although I do use my Magic Bullet for 10 second to mix mine).
I get mine from the vendor allsportsnutrition, whose online store is at
http://stores.ebay.com/All-Sports-Nutrition.
You can also buy samples (to see if you want the bigger packages) at
http://www.vitalady.com/.
I've found that my taste have changed since having the surgery - - but have also found that it is next to impossible for me to get all my needed protein in through food sources and that I need the protien drinks to get my daily quota. Also - - the powder drinks are inexpesive, quick to make...and I LOVE the Chocolate flavor...and what ever you eat/drink -- try to make sure you get the most protein in with the least amount of food/drink.
When we're working with a pouch after WLS - - we can't eat much so whatever we do eat/drink, I feel that we need to make the most of it.
I've noticed that some doctors tell post-op patients to not drink the protein drinks or eat the protein bars....but like anything else -- they are supplments to help us get what we need in with our limited space...and we want things to taste good to us.
Before WLS, I bought the pre-packaged protein drinks -- but they were really too much for my budget and I really did not like the taste of them as much as I do the Champion Nutrition Whey Protein Stack Chocolate which has 23g of protein to the reg serving size - -which is pretty good for the price I can get on eBay.
It's a good idea not too stock up too much before surgery because after I had surgery -- everything looked different. Post-op....I look at the labels more to make sure that I am getting the most protein and making sure that anything that goes through my mouth is worth eating and not just empty calories without any real use other than storage.
Best wishes. 'Hang in there.
