General Motors/Saturn Insurance
Hi Robin, The only thing I know about BCBS is you have to use their Dr.'s, that prior to the surgery you have to full fill a 6 month Dr. Supervised diet program. They are hard to deal with, but they will approve of the surgery when you finish their requirements. The 6 month program is to be done just prior to the surgery. Best of luck to you. Kathy
As of March, BCBS Michigan (General Motors insurance plan) no longer tells you up front if you're approved for bariatric surgery or not. They send their criteria to the hospital and they have to make sure you meet that criteria. Then after the surgery, the hospital, surgeon, etc. submit their claims and "pray to the insurance gods" that it gets paid. Their criteria is pretty much the same as everyone elses EXCEPT that you must have 12 months of a medically supervised weight loss attempt documented by a physician.
Hope this helps, Good Luck!
Pam
Thanks for the info. How did you find this out? I'm still in the waiting process of the office processing my information and sending it to the insurance company. I'm kind of anxious to hear at least a little something. I know it will take a little while. Just wi**** would go fast like some of the other people. :-l I appreciate everything you've told me.
