Have lost hope.
I just started looking into WLS last week after my doctor advised me to think about it. After researching it I was very excited like all of you I have tried every diet out there.
Well to make a long story short. My husband's insurance has an exclusion. I do not work I have two handcapped children at home along with my mother who suffered a stroke 4 years ago and a handcapped brother. I have my sisters help taking care of them but it is a two person job.
My husband is a Teamster and this is the only insurance that they have. So I decide that in a few years all of the insurance companies will more than likely carry coverage for the surgery. So my next plan is to go under my Doctors supervision and diet. Getting ready for when the surgery will be cover. Well my doctor will not do it. He sent me to a weight loss clinic that will not be covered under my insurance either.
So I am going to have to diet on my own again. And hope that in a few years I will be able to save up the money for a supervised diet course.
Man am I depressed now.
Hi LaBreeska, don't give up on your dreams. I have been trying for 2 years, seriously for the last year. I have been denied 11 times, but I am still fighting the fight to have this surgery. It sounds like you need to change PCP's if he won't put you on a supervised diet program. Keep fighting the insurance company, and don't give up. I have leukemia and I am still going after my dream.
Hang in there and you will get your dream to becoming a loser of weight.
May God travel with you on your journey. Kathy
I know this whole thing can be so difficult, it seems so unfair that people pay high prices for insurance and then when they need something to be covered. they can't get it. What ever you do don't give up hope, keep all the documents you can on your weight loss attempts, so you can prepair yourself to apply when your able. I didn't look at where your from, but Vanderbilt has a medicall supervised diet course, for six months it's 500, I know that's still a ton of money, but they allow you to pay for it in payments, it's what I've had to do. Good luck with everything!!!
