Have a question about skeletal pain

Hi Friends I am quite overdue in writing you all, since my surgery was back in Feb. on the 9th of this year. I apologize. And, I will write later giving you more details. But, for now, I do have a question for "post op" friends. Has anyone had terrible back (spinal) and bone (all over ) pain since their weight loss?.I have done very well and have been very blessed with good progress and have stuck to Dr. Olsen's regime to a "T". as it has proven itself to be very worthy. But, I have terrible bone aching most of the time, but especially at night, which does hamper my sleeping. I realize that my body is probably saying... where's the fat... ( that used to keep us propted up)? So,,.... if any of you have any solutions or answers, I would appreciate your email. I am and have been walking and doing a stationary bike and a health rider. I have meant to get to the "Y" and get into the pool for arthritis rehab type of excercising... just haven't made the time with our busy family schedule. I will try and change that though. Hope you all are well. BTW, I forgot to tell you that I have lost 99 lbs. since Feb. 9th... I weighed 320 and now weigh 221 and counting. Thanks you all for your support. God Bless. Luv, kath

First, let me say that I am so thrilled for you and your weight loss!!!! I had my surgery on 4-18-05 and have lost 66 pounds as of this morning. I have not had the bone pain as you have mentioned but I can attribute the majority of that pain-free pass to my sleep number bed. I don't work for them and I am not a spokesperson but I LOVE THAT BED!!! If I need more or less support depending on my work out and how I feel, I can change the number and sleep soundly. I do hate that you have had this pain. Have you talked to Dr. Olsen or gone to see your PCP about it?? Are you eating dairy products and taking your calcium?? I am hooked on Blue Bunny Yougurt!!! I was a calcium freak before surgery....I loved milk and dairy products so I have sought them out in my post-op diet regime. Dr. Houston is my surgeon so I imagine their "post-op diets" are similar. I do wish you the best of luck and hope my suggestions help. I would go see your PCP about the pain if it does not cease soon. Lack of sleep due to pain is a horrible way to go through life. If it can be changed, I know you are all for that. Maybe a bone density scan is necessary. I hope not but it may answer some questions. PLEASE let me know how you are doing. Sincerely... bryna

Yep - - I'm going through all of this body pain too. My husband said that mine is because my surgery was so recent 6/13 and I'm back to work now and asking my body to do more than maybe what it is ready for. I've had some say that it's because of the weight shifting around -- but I just know it does not feel good and I'd like to get feeling better. I go in for my second post-op appointment next week. When I went last time, the doctor told me NOT to excerice or do anything extra than what I need to during the day to day process. Now that my incesions are healed up on the outside, I'm think of a full body massage to help with the pain. I really am not sure what to do to make it feel better...but I'm willing to try whatever may be needed. 'Hang in there. You're doing wonderful on your weight loss!

Congratulations on your weight loss, 99 lbs is amazing. As for the back pain, I've been having muscle spasms but not bone pain. You might want to check with your doctor, both the surgeon and PCP. Good luck. Toni
