Which one?
Kip,
I researched several different types but when I chose my surgeon, he made the final call based on my starting point, my goals, and what he felt would give me the best long term results. My surgeon is Dr Agbunag at Skyline Medical Center in north Nashville. I will recommend him to everyone because he is the best!!
Good luck.

Kip,
Although I originally looked into the lapband, I decided on the roux-en-y procedure based on a number of reasons. The main reasons are these:
1) I needed to lose approximately 200 lbs, and wanted to lose it quickly, although loss of that much weight is possible (there is a fellow who frequents the chat room here who has lost over 200 lbs with the band), it is a slower loss and I am impatient.
2) The success rate of RNY (at the time I did all of my research) is considered to be much higher -- of course, anyone can be successful with either surgery or fail miserably -- but I like the odds.
3) My insurance does not cover the DS -- a surgery for which I would be a great candidate, given the large amount of excess weight I need to lose.
Choosing the type of procedure to have is a very personal decision, and should not be taken lightly. There is a lot of excellent information on this website and many others for you to read and decide for yourself. It helps to know people who have had the different types of surgeries and know of their experiences.
All of that being said -- I definitely recommend going to the seminars offered by the various doctors in the area and learn from them. Good luck in your journey!
