Is anyone else having trouble with the holiday?

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone else is having the holiday eating blues? I sure am I'm doing the dieting before surgery and I think almost everyone I know has called to invite me to cookouts and get togeathers for the 4th. Right now I'm doing just lean meat and vegetables and plenty of WATER,and I know like in the past if I went I would be wanting to eat. I also know that I'm going to have to get used to the fact of not eating things anyway after surgery so I understand that part, but it sure is hard for me this week. I have done really well on the dieting so far. I was just wondering if anyone was going through the same thing and what they were doing. Thanks for any advice Everyone have a Great Day! Debbie

Debbie, the best advise I can give you is Don't Stress! Eat your lean meat and veggies, and if you want some dessert, go ahead and have it. Even after surgery there will be times when you will give in and just eat what you want. Of course there will be reprocussions but you learn to deal with them. For example, tomorrow my church is having a community picnic after services and they are serving hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixin's. I am taking a veggie burger (still not allowed red meat yet) for them to throw on the grill. As far as the fixin's I'll have to see what they actually have but I do plan on eating what I can. Like I said, don't worry about eating vs not eating, everything will work out. BTW, if you're going to be in the Gallatin area, please stop by and join us at Lambuth Memorial Methodist Church on HWY 25. Services start at 11 AM with the picnic to follow. Hi Debbie, I haven't had the surgery yet, but I do understand about the eating. I was making all my holiday baking at Christmas, here I am stirring fudge with huge chunks of walnuts when the phone rang. It was Dr. calling to inform me that the blood work came back that I am now a diabetic. I love my fudge, I have one small piece and one fresh out of the oven choc. chip cookie. It was all gooy and tasted so good. That was all I have over the Christmas holidays with my 2 sons families. It will be hard and after surgery it will be harder but as Toni said, it's ok to cheat once in a while after surgery, you will pay for the after affects, that's how you learn. We are basically small children learning how to eat all over again. If you are having to just eat certain foods right now prior to your surgery (which is when) that's to shrink your liver. We all are here to support you thru this. The post-ops have great advice, so listen to what they say, then there is me who's being trying for 2 years to have surgery. Just be carefull when in doubt contact the nutrionist. Best of luck on our journey and May God guide you. Kathy
