I have FINALLY found a protein shake I can tolerate. I started going to curves at 3 weeks post-op and have remained a member there. The have a protein shake, which when mixed with skim milk is only 190 calories, 23 grams of protein, and 14 grams of carbs. It still isn't like drinking a good old chocolate shake, but I didn't automatically gag as is the response with most protein shakes I have tried. A word of warning to those of you who are still pre-op, don't go out and stock up on protein powders or ready-made shakes before surgery. I did this and loved the taste of both SlimFast and Advantage shakes. However, the surgery altered my taste so badly, I find I don't even like the same things anymore.
