Hi Kip, basically it depends on the surgeon you pick. I know you can have everything ready, but you may have to wait on Vandy for a surgical date. They have a list. Once your name comes up, your surgeon will be notified when you can have the surgery. Best of luck, sweetie, and May God guide you on your journey. Love Kathy

I went to Dr. Richards at Vanderbilt, and would highly recommend him. After you have your initial appointment with Dr. Hadi and have the testing done, they will submit it to your insurance. After you get your insurance approval, they will schedule your first appointment with the surgeon and your surgery at the same time. Dr. Richards assistant takes care of making the arrangements for your appointments (with VPEC, the surgeon, and the nutritionist), and will call you once she gets the approval from Beth Goodrich. Beth is the insurance specialist, and is extremely helpful. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions! Take care, Ashleigh 251/242/140

I'm scheduled for surgery at Vanderbilt 6/13/05. I completed my test requirements late 2/2005. I was approved for surgery early 5/05. Once you get approval from your insurance company, it's a matter of days before they begin scheduling your surgery date and all the pre-op required appointments. I've only met with my surgeon once and that was just to say "Hi" and have him confirm the risk of the surgery and ask me if it is still something I really want to do. This was one of the pre-op appointments Vanderbilt had scheduled for me on my behalf. At each appointment, their staff evaluates if you are still a good candidate for this procedure. They give you tons of information on the actual surgery, post op dietary concerns, plus lost of details where others have asked questions and they have answered. After taking to the surgeon and the surgeon agrees that you're still a good candidate for surgery, a staff member comes in and takes a BEFORE photo and talks a little more positive about BEFORE and AFTER and helps set you up for post op follow-up appointments. I guess this is the GENERAL process - - however, for each the time frame may be a little different depending on which doctor is chosen to do your surgery and how many other surgeries are scheduled within that same time frame. Best wishes to you.
