Hey I was just wondering if anyone age 17, having just barely met the other requirements, found it easy to find someone who would do the surgery while under 18. Does anyone know if surgeons tend to be leanient with this rule? Thanks!

Hey. I'm 17 (18 in Oct) and am going through the process. I think most surgeons operate on 16 and up (Mine does). My surgeon was just concerned because I'm young and of the risks involved with the RNY. He suggested the Lap-Band. I'm still not sure. I doubt the surgeon will be the problem; it'll probably be the insurance company. Some have age requirements. If you have BCBS TN, you have to be 18. I suggest you contact your insurance company and find out your policy and then schedule a consult with the surgeon. You can find a lot of information about surgeons in your area on this website. Sorry, don't know much about East TN, I live way on the other side (memphis). BTW, I see you live in Knoxville. GO VOLS!!! National Championship within the next 4 yrs!!! Good Luck -Andrew

If you've not done so yet, you might want to post to the teen forum here as well. Good luck! http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/amosforums/teen_wls/
