Strengthen your servant ____, O God, to do what he/she has to do and bear what he/she has to bear; that, accepting your healing gifts through the skill of surgeons and nurses, he/she may be restored to usefulness in your world with a thankful heart; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let me tell you I have never been as at easy with surgery as I was when I had my gall bladder taken out in 2000. The surgeon I had came into the preop room came to my side grabbed my hand and said we are going to pray. At that point he prayed that God watch over not only me but to guide him and steady his hand and help his surgical team. I guess what put me at such ease is this man is a wonderful surgeon yet even he realizes that the work he does he doesn't do alone.
