Opinions on the best type of surgery?
Hi all--I'm new to this site, although I've seen a few I'm aquainted with on here--lol Anyway, tommorrow I go to see about a referral from my pcp to a bariatric surgeon. I've seen several diff types of surgery for wls, and I've always thought I wanted the lap band. However, I've noticed that alot of people are having something different. What is the best type to have? I'm considered severly morbidly obese. I guess I am, although that term is like, well, REALLY depressing! I'm five two and weigh every bit of 356 lbs, although it may be more by now--I just absolutely refuse to look at the scale when weighed--LOL Has anyone had any problems with Tenncare Select? From what I've read they cover most wls surgeries--or so they say at the tenncare site. I'm also really worried about having "documentation" of weight loss programs. I have done alot of dieting, pills, exercising, but none of it has been on paper, so how does that work?
Hi Twyla, Tncare Select requires 6 months prior to the surgery of supervised weight loss surgery. You're PCP can set you up and monitor and document each months weigh-in. Like most insurances and surgeons, they want to see if you can do that before having surgery. So I would check for that with the surgeon and tncare. Also it helps with the surgery if you have lost some weight. Good luck, kathy
Hi!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know you! LOL!
Anyhow, I have TennCare Select and I didn't have to wait 6 months for a supervised diet. (keep in mind it took me 3 years to find a doctor though...) I truely think it all has to do with what your medical file says about you and your health.
Now the differnt types of surgery are... Click on the link below and it'll take ya to the different kinds. However, I think Tennessee only offers Open RYN, Lab RYN, and Lap Banding. I may be wrong though!

Hope this helps...
Good luck, Twlya!
