Did anyones doctor advise them to go on a low carb diet prior to surgery to shrink the liver?

Hi Lori, Yes my doctor recommended a low carb diet before surgery. He asked that I try to lose at least ten pounds. He said it will help shrink the liver and keep it out of the way during surgery. I was having the LAP RNY done and he said it would help to insure having it done LAP rather than having to open me up due to the liver being in the way. Greg

*waves at Greg* hey stranger, I was beginning to think you'd disappeared; how's it going. Lori, My doctor didn't say diet before surgery but all the literature shows it to be a good way to shrink the liver before surgery. Plus, it's pretty much how you are going to have to live post surgery. Kelly -77lbs in almost 4mos

Hi Kelly, I've been here, just being quiet LOL. I am doing good, hard to believe it is now 6 months since surgery. How are you doing? I know you had a rough month or two after surgery and hoping all is going better for you. Greg

Greg, Yeah, I'm better. I still don't eat that much but most days I get in about 80 ounces of fluid and about 60-90 grams of protein. I got the feeding tube out after 6 weeks and then caught a virus and got dehydrated the next month and spent 3 days in Vanderbilt, but I'm stabilizing out. I was 4 mos post-op as of yesterday and have lost 81lbs. Please pop in more often and let us know how things are going for you. Kelly
