I have a date! Yay!
Hi everyone!
I had my consultation yesterday and scheduled my surgery for June 24!!! I am going to have a Lap RNY. I am very excited! The doctor even told me that he will try to put a fobi band on my pouch to make it hold better. He said it will take a little longer in surgery but I said that was OK by me!
The only complication he could forsee was that I take metformin for my diabetes, which he says tends to swell the liver. He wants me to go on a no carb diet for two weeks before surgery. I have my pre-op tests done on June 15th.
I also think I will not take any metformin for two weeks before surgery. When I don't eat carbs, my blood sugar doesn't go up. Has anyone else had this problem before surgery? What did you do to help?
Thanks a bunch!
Marian
Hi Marian, congradulations on getting a date. I am on the same med for diabeties. Most have had to go on a certain diet for two weeks prior to having surgery. Mainly for the liver. With obesity comes fatty liver. The dr.'s want this to shrink before surgery. As for your diabeties medication, I wouldn't go off it unless the surgeron says otherwise. I have been told to stop only my blood thinners two weeks before surgery. My PCP checks my blood sugar and liver every month because of the medication. Before going off your meds I would check with your PCP and the surgeon. Best of luck to you in the coming months. who is doing your surgery? We don't live far apart. I live in Bean Station, but most of my Dr.'s are in Morristown at the Healthstar on Morris Blvd. Kathy
