Hello I am new here. I am seriously considering WLS. I have completed all requirements that my insurance company will want. I am still having such great reservations. I am 43 and have a 1 1/2 yr old daughter. I want to be around as long as possible for her. I know that if I don't get healthy soon, my lifespan will be shortened. I wonder if anybody has read any research on the long term effects of this surgery. If anyone knows of any websites with this kind of info. I sure would appreciate it. Having this surgery scares the **** out of me. I just want to make the most informed decision I can. Thanks for any info.

Hi Judy, I don't really know any sites. I have not had my surgery yet....just waiting on the insurance to O.K. it. I do know how you feel, because it scares the bajebers out of me too. I will be praying for you. I've done all kinds of research on the surgery itself, but I've not actually seen anything about the longterm except from talking to people who have had this done years ago. GOD BLESS YOU !!!

I don't know the answer. However I have a friend who is over 3 years post-op and as far as I know she is doing great. Check this out http://johnhustedmd.com/testimonials/gail_abbott.htm I had surgery 7-19-04 at Blount Memorial in Maryville with Dr. Reisser. I have had no regreats and have 117lbs gone.
