Its cool that you are getting that much in now and Im sure they do set the protien goal a bit high. Think of it this way though. If you take most of it in one sitting your body is gonna use what it does absorb at that time. Like for instance my surgeon has me take a multi vit with iron three times a day so I can make sure my body gets and is able to use what it needs throughout the day. Just think if I said oh Im just gonna take all three in the morning instead of spreading it out. It wouldn't give my body what it needs for the day. Of course everyone's surgeon/dietician/etc.. have different guidelines but this one just makes sense to me. *huggles*

I agree about the malabsorption issues. My nutrionist feels it's better to spread out the protein shakes during the day for a number of reasons. The most important reason being that our bodies will not use more than a certain amount at one time. I tried doing 50 grams of a shake at one time on several occassions and got really nausea. Both my surgeon and nutrionist said it's just too much protein for the body to break down at once. Protein is the most important thing we need, but the hardest to digest. Good luck to all! Hi Anne, getting that much protein sounds good to me. I know I don't get enough now as it is, GNC will just have to see me online. I hate going in a mall. Major panic attack comes on. What you had for the day sounds like a lot to me, seeing as I haven't eatten that much in one day. There's a Patty B. that has just recipes on the OH board. Some of those recipes sound great. Keep up the good work, Kathy

Anne - Thanks for sharing this with us. I am 3 weeks post op and not getting enough protein in. I was exploring other options, so I will certainly put this on the list of ideas. I have to check my food list and see what kind of protein powder my surgeon recommends, but this sounds great. Jules

HI all.. I think your diet sounds real good Anne.. I read all the posts in response to your post, and myself being pre-op still, I am just absorbing all I can.. Was wondering if what Dixie says is true about not being able to absorb it all at one time, what about going ahead and making up the 10oz protien drink and just splitting it up throughout the day..morning noon and night??? Just an idea.. I really have not been down the road you are on just yet so still learning myself. My best friend in Texas just came out of her surgery about 3pm today and she does not get online so I am also helping her with information as well so anything I can pick up here, will help us both! How are you doing Anne on your weightloss so far if you don't mind me asking? And when did you have your surgery? Thanks! Hugs and God Bless to you all Dawn

I just posted to your recent message about this protein. I know I don't get in enough now or enough calcium, but hopefully before I ever have this surgery, I will already be in the protein shakes. Then I can find out what I like or don't like before hand. Thanks Kathy
