does anyone know if you are supposed to loose weight or not gain any before surgery? I have Dr. Wright for my surgery. Anyway, I am scared because I have been eating stuff cause I know I wont get to have it any more, and I hop I havent gained anything. After all the trouble it took to get approved, and have something like this mess it up......Oh my gosh..I'm scared!

Hey Sheila.....I think it would be a good thing for everyone planning on having the surgery to loose some weight, but alot of people eat alot before it.I worked with a girl that ate anything that didn't crawl away and if she could catch it,she ate it to.I wouldn't get stressed out about it.I know when I get that close I'll prob do the same thing!!!! It may not be the best but it's STRESS eating!!!!! April

Shelia, I wouldn't say it be healthy to purposly 'gain' weight. However, I'd have your few 'last favorite meals', then after that just start to cut down a little because its such a shock on your body to one day be eating a half/whole pizza, then going to nothing bu****er. Plus, if you atleast start counting down before surgery - It helps the doctor especially if you've shrunk your liver and stomach a bit back to normal size. Good luck! -Katie

Since I don't have a Dr. yet!!!!hmmmm and I don't have a surgery date, I eat a little more healthy then normal. I also started reading the protein vs fat and salt of food. A lot of Dr.'s would rather you try to lose weight before surgery, that shows them you are serious and it's easier on your body by the cutting back. It helps to cut back on the fats, because of the liver. Each dr. is different, but I would say 8 out of 10 would prefer you try and lose weight first. The other 2 are surprised if you do lose weight, as they expect what we all want to do and that's eat our favorite meals prior to surgery. All I can say is check with your Dr. Best wishes to you, Kathy

Dr. Wright did my surgery 3 years (and 215 pounds) ago. He did not require any pre-op weight loss then. He is an awesome surgeon, hope you have as easy a time as I have, I've NEVER been sick, not once, no complications at all. Here's wishing the same for you.
