Susann, Insurance companies that require 6 months of documentation are looking to see if you have made efforts at weight loss but have not been successful. Insurance companies have many different requirements...some want doctors documentation, some look for weight loss programs like Jenny Craig, etc. Basically, surgery is a "last ditch" effort and they are looking to see if you have tried to loose weight without undergoing a drastic surgery.
