Thank you again for all of your advice. I have appointments to meet with both surgeons next week. My insurance also specifies that the minimum BMI for the DS is 50. My BMI is right at 50 (give or take a little depending on the day). I have a list of basic questions to ask each one that I have found on dsfacts.com and wlshelp.com, but  do you have any other questions I should ask or that you may have wished you asked up front? Thanks again for all of your help. :)

I agree with everybody's advice.   Meet them both and talk with them.   People tend to really love their WLS surgeon.  I went to Dr. Spaw, and I've been very happy with my results.   I'm old and was in horrible shape when I started out.

Dr. Spaw has done more DS surgeries but I understand that Dr. Houston will do them laparascopically.   Which Dr. Spaw doesn't.   Or at least has not.   I don't know of any future plans.   I'm well past two-piece bathing suit age, so having the surgery open wasn't an issue for me.   Healing and postop pain I think are pretty much equivalent.   The DS is much less painful afterwards than a C-section.   The only two akinds of bdominal surgery I've had and of course they were both open.
