I don't really need to be close to the office, but would be nice to have dining and shopping close by, and a decent area.   Is it better to stay in Nashville or is Murfresburough ok?

Prefer to be convenient to head back to Atlanta.  I think I'm coming on interstate 24.

The area for Vanderbilt University is very nice.  We had a family re-union there last year.  We stayed at the Holiday Inn at Vanderbilt.  There are lots of very nice restaurants within walking distance.  Centennial is very close by.  Shopping is limited to boutiques and college focused interests, at least within walking distance.  This area is also called the West End.  There are 5 major hospitals there and most of the hotels offer discounts if you tell them you're in town for medical reasons.  The West End is also very accessible from I-440.  I believe I-24 and I-40 intersect.

I have found that using priceline name your own price and selecting the airport gets good rates.   My Mom flew in from my DS and stayed near the airport (its about 12 miles to CMC) and she did not mind the drive every day.   I am a little partial (since I live on this side of town) and I am cheap.. LOL

If you need anything while you are here just let me know.

Thanks John. It's good to know there are still guys out there to aid a damsel in distress. I think I'll be fine.   My mom and my son will be with me.

I think I'll try Murfresboro, it's on the way home.  I stayed in that area before. I had some clients in Cool Springs near the mall.    If I don't get a decent bid accepted, I'll try the airport.   Is the airport areaaccesible to I-24?

Priceline is tricky if you don't know exactly where you're going, but saves a bunch.

If you want the West End area coming from Atlanta, take I-75 North for 100 miles to the TN state line 2 miles into the state I-75 will connect with I-24 West stay left (I-75 will take you to Knoxville WRONG WAY!) stay on I-24 for approximately 104 miles this is Murfreesboro, TN. if you continue on I-24 west another 22 miles you will merge with I-40 West sign says to Memphis (this is a left hand exit 2 left lanes) then exit at 209 end of ramp turn left this will take you to the area of Baptist, Centennial and Vanderbilt apx 1 mile after turning left this road will split stay right this is West End to go to Baptist or Centennial stay left this 21 st Ave for Vanderbilt. Good luck C'ya Bob

if you decide to stay in Murfreesboro let me know and I will meet you for a visit and maybe dinner !  nashville is 30 miles away from here right on 24. rush hour traffic can be a hassle.

I have two friends that worked in the Hotel industry for years.  They told me a little trick.  Once I get a quote on priceline or one of the "discount" sites to call that same hotel and tell them the rate. They will usually match or better the rate directly.  I have tried it 3 times now and guess what it works.  LOL.  Usually the rate we can get on priceline or whatever is still above what they are paying the hotel for.  Sooooo if you go to the actual location it is actually easy for them to match it and actually make more money.  One of those times for me they went cheaper.

As far as where to stay there are several things to consider.  You are right that Murfreesboro is better as far as heading home.  But depending on where you have to go when you are here and what time of day you may regret it.  There is considerable traffic coming into Nashville during rush hour each morning and the same returning back to the Boro in the evening.  But in the Avenue area there is plenty of shopping and restaurants to take advantage of if you don't need to venture into Nashvegas.

Price wise I think John is right you will probably get some of the better deals around the Airport.  But from a dining standpoint most of the places are fastfood types.  However OpryMills is not far at all for shopping and other restaurants.

Be careful staying in North Nashville or Antioch.  Not the safest areas especially at night.  I grew up in Antioch...it is not the place it used to be.

West End and the Vanderbilt area has probably some of the best access to a variety of restaurants.  But like someone else mentioned the shopping will be smaller stores vs. malls.  However there are things like Borders and Starbucks if you need to get a caffine fix and a good book.

Downtown has plenty of hotels but you will pay to park your car.  There are restaurants but tends to be bar food places or trendy to tourists type places like Spagetti Factory.  But if your business takes you there daily it would be a good solution to cut down on your daily exposure to traffic.  Probably will pay the highest rate on hotels here.

Have a great trip...Nashville is a wonderful town.  I am sure you will be happy regardless where you stay.  After we are just full of Southern Hospitality.

I love Hotwire.com

You don't get to pick the exact hotel, but you can pick the area and stars of the hotel, also the price is listed.

I booked hotels in Atlanta, Toronto, Cincinnati and Louisville, and have not had a bad experience.

Michael.
