So in this first week of clear liquids how did you get in any protein? I am eating protein Jello. But I am sick of Jello. I cant do broths... So other then putting it in my crystal light are there any other choice's? I have unflavored BE Pure and I can taste it in everything unflavored or not.

What is one to do?

Thanks

Sher

Why can't you have chicken broth? That is considered a clear liquid. There are clear protein drinks that are allowed and you can get them from Vitamin Shoppe or GNC. This was a rough stage for me and I am glad to now be past it. Sorry :-/

I don't like the chicken broth. I had some in my liquid diet before surgery and at the hospital it is like drinking chicken grease to me. So when I say I cant... I cant because I don't like.

I heard most dont like those clear protein drinks from the vitamin shoppe. Anyone?

The clear protein drink you are probably hearing about that people don't like is the Isopure (aka Isopuke). It is NASTY!!

The Cytosport can be rather sweet right after surgery, but then isn't everything? Anyway, like Steve said, dilute it with some water and see if that helps.

I only had to do clear liquids for the first day after surgery and then moved to full liquids.

I have used the Cytosport at times because I like to change up my protein options. Sometimes I want just a veggie salad for a meal so I will drink Cytosport for my fluids and protein so I can have the salad.

Isn't it funny, after all those years of eating salad to try and lose weight, now that I have lost the weight I crave salads.

Have you tried Cytosport? It is a clear liquid protein that actually tastes good. You can get it in the cooler at The Vitamin Shoppe. It comes in watermelon, tangerine (or is it mandarin orange?) and tropical punch.

Exact same stats as Isopure but it won't make you hurl.

I tried the Cytosport. You may need to dilute them with some water because right after surgery they may be considered very "sweet" to you. They have good stats like Susan said and don't taste bad at all.

Also, going back to the chicken broth - were you buying canned chicken broth or making your own? After surgery, my mom made a pot of chicken stock (w/ celery, parsley, carrots for flavor) and it was the sole thing that kept me from pulling my hair out. Canned broth/bouillion=yuck. Fresh chicken stock = delicious.

Of course, our taste buds are all different. =)

I was buying canned well in the box really. But not fresh. I am not a cook so this is all new to me. I have been looking at recipies online I cant wait to try when I am able to. Can you tell me this why do most that call for salt say to use Kosher salt?

Oh and I dont have a Vitamine Shoppe near me. Closest is an hour away and I cant drive yet per the Dr. Yet .

You can use table salt or Kosher salt. Some people prefer the taste of Kosher salt, plus you don't have to use as much of it to flavor a dish as you do with table (iodized) salt.

i used to go to my fav chinese food restaurant and get wonton soup without the wonton.  They looked at me funny but it was the best broth ever.

I am a vandy patient.  we were only on clears while we were in the hospital.  Went on full liquids for a week afterwards so I am afraid I am not much help on how to get your protein other than protein jello.

I agree about vitamin shoppe.... maybe get someone to go on a "field trip" with you so you don't have to drive.  they have tons of clear proteins.  Hubby actually liked some of the isopure when it came in those bottles.  not so much in the huge 45 dollar tub but thats another story.

As far as kosher salt vs. reg salt.  there really is no difference in taste.  the biggest difference is consistency.  kosher salt is bigger and chunkier.  i think it is a mind trick when you can actually see it on your food.  most cooks prefer it just for asethetic reasons.

Wonton broth is what I used. I just called ahead and order 10 containers and brought them home and froze them, I think I still have a couple in the freezer now. It was way better then just plain chicken broth.
