I love http://bariatrictv.com/ I never miss an episode and cant wait till Fridays when they are on. Maybe some day they will do more then a weekly episode, but for now I am glad they do them weekly I learn alot.

This weeks episodes says you should have an Medical ID Bracelet. This is the first time I have heard this. They say it should say “No Blind NG and No NSAIDS". I never thought about this and do think it is a good idea. I was wondering how many of you got these to let people know you had surgery and what yours say?

Thanks,

Sher

It is a good idea, especially if you are prone to health issues that require hospital visits. For me, I need to find something discrete/ comfortable/ easy to wear. Instead of a bracelet, maybe a chain around my neck.

I'd be curious whether others on the board wear one or not?

I've got one! I heard about it some time before surgery. So when I found out my surgery date I ordered mine on http://www.americanmedical-id.com. I put it on as soon as I got home from the hospital and have never taken it off.

What you quoted should be on there along with your first and last name, surgeon's name, and surgeon's phone number.

Hello! I have a medical id bracelet that I ordered from fiddledeeid.com. Mine has my full name, no blind NG tubes, no nsaids/sugar and the last line has the hospital and the doctors name that did my surgery. It was around $50 but I think it was worth it. Some people say they are not necessary but I do not know if I could trust a medical professional (EMT or MD) if I was somewhere other than near my own hospital. Some say that any trained Dr should be able to tell that you have had surgery by looking at your stomach (I quess the incision scars) but my stomach looks like a road map from all my past procedures. I would rather be safe than sorry!!!!!

I have one that I got from American Medical ID online. It was about $60 but it is sterling silver and looks just a bit like regular jewelry. This is what I have on mine:

Karen Ogle   Diabetic
Gastric Bypass
No blind NG tube
No NSAIDS
Surgeon's Phone Number

I feel better knowing it is there, in case I am ever unable to speak for myself.

i ordered mine from lauren'shope.com. they have very pretty ones that look like jewelry. I ordered a dogtag style on a chain. I am lost without a watch and you are supposed to wear the id on your left wrist so I went with the necklace. mine says
Rebecca Hernandez
gastric bypass 9-9-08
no blind ng/no nsaids
ICE(in case of emergency) my hubby's cell phone #

I wanted my hubby called not my surgeon in an emergency.

I've had the regular medic alert bracelets and chains. But this time living next to Ft. Campbell I just had dog tags made up because there is more writing surface. Name, Emergency Contact and Phone #, Procedure, Blood Type. I think all 3 were under $10.00, I put one on my key chain, I around my neck, one on my bicycle. Last year when I had my bike accident and was unconscious as they Life Flighted me they already contacted Dr. Richards & Vanderbilt. It came in handy. C'ya Bob

I'm a big BTV fan as well, and thank God for them! I had never heard anyone say to do this, so it's on my list.
