Muscle Milk?

Muscle Milk RTD protein drink seems to be available everywhere.  I even saw it in the little neighborhood market yesterday.  I looked at the label and the sugar and carbs seem to be higher than normal and the calories were about 220 for one drink.

Does anybody know if it is OK for us to drink these.  I tasted one and it was pretty good, but I was afraid to drink the whole thing when I saw the label.

Does anybody know the answer to this one?

I can't locate the stats for the specific one you are looking at...   But, if its a 14 oz bottle, you may only want to do this in 2 servings instead of one.  14 oz of any RTD is too much for one serving.  They are generally very thick....  So in that case, if 14 oz is 240 calories, that would mean 7 oz would be 120 calories.  That is a good breakfast for me...  Now keep in mind that I'm not sure what stage you are in, but I do not "eat" my brekfast.  Very rarely...  my stomach cannot handle food that early, I rely on a shake as my meal replacement.

Another thing that you can do with thse is to use them as coffee creamer.  You can also use them like you would use milk.  Here is one example.  If you want to make a protein shake, use 2 oz of a ready to drink and 6 oz of water.  It gives it a  very creamy consistency.

I have not tried Muscle Milk.  I have heard mixed reviews.  I use Labrada On The Go, Oh Yeah, and also the Labrada Lean Body in the cardboard drink box.  I also like to occasionally heat this up in a pan on the stove, add some sugar free jello pudding cook & serve, and have hot pudding for a dessert.  I have also put these in Fillo shells (teeny tiny ones) and had teensy chocolate pies with a little whip cream on top.

You can also freeze these things and use them as ice cream, or even use them in a recipe for ice cream like Eggface's, in lieu of soy milk.

I drank alot of Muscle Milk while on my pre-op diet. My surgeon actually listed it as one of the OK to drink RTD shakes for a meal. BUT.... it was Muscle Milk Light. It has fewer calories and fewer carbs.

Mels suggestion to drink only half is a good idea too. Because even on my re-op diet before I ever had my surgery. Drinking a whole one really did fill me up on my regular stomach.

They make a Muscle Milk Light that has fewer calories and carbs and Kat mentioned it at a support group meeting.  I know the Wolfchase in Germantown carries it (my aunt works ther part time).  I have a friend that does body building and he drinks the regular muscle milk and says it tastes great.  I also heard someone say the Muscle Milk Light tastes good, too.

Thanks!  I have read the labels and looked at my posts and I KNOW the regular is not good for me.  Maybe the lite will be better.  I did drink the regulars and it was VERY rich.  I knew right away something was not right for WLS.  Thats when I read the label (stupid me, I know better than to read the labels AFTER I purchase the product),

Thanks for all the help.   Maybe I'll see you at the next meeting.

We are going to start having a group support meeting for Fayette County on the Third Wednsday of every month starting May 20th.  It will be at the Holy Spirit Lutheren Church on HWY 193 in Oakland.  It will be VERY informal.  Just friends who have this WLS thing in common.   We are going to have fun.  Come join us if you can.  Starts at 7:PM
