I saw someone else suggest lip gloss/ chapstick.  I am scheduled for Monday, so I don't have experience, but will read up on your responses too!

I had a band, so mine was same day, but YES, take something for your lips they get so dry!!!  I don't know what you will need IN the hospital but I would recommend at least two GOOD pillows in the car ride home!

I'm sure some of the others will post what you will need for your overnight with RNY...

Do you have someone to keep us posted on how you are doing?

Chapstick is a MUST as you probably wont be able to drink water for a bit after your surgery.
Bring comfortable pajamas or sweats because it helps you feel better than wearing that gown around.
Bring the regular toiletries to shower and brush your teeth, you might think you wont want to shower, but you will feel 110% better after you shower!
Definetly bring slippers and your own pillow, it helps to have a pillow for behind your head and one behind your back or next to your side since you probably wont want to lie flat.  When I was in ICU they wouldn't let me kie flat... not that I wanted to since it hurt too bad.
Other than that you probably wont need too much.  I was passed out on pain meds most of the time and other than that I was walking so the book i brought didn't get touched.

Good Luck with your surgery :)

I think the must brings are:

Robe
Slippers
Chapstick
Pillows for the ride home
Tooth Brush
I would think whatever else you wanted to bring would just be optional if you feel you need or want anything else.

In my hospital in Memphis, they had soap, toothpaste and lotion available at the hospital unless you prefer to bring your own.

They provided me with NON SKID socks (in case I forgot my slippers)

They will want you to walk when you can and it will help you get better faster if you do.   If you don't take a robe, they will put two of those split tailed gowns on you one behind and one in front.  It is a fashion desaster!   Please bring the robe so that others won't be subjected to that sight!  (LOL)

Good luck ot you!  Everything will be just fine!

Thank you guys for the advice. There is just so much to get done before my surgery, I really don't know what I need to do next. I'll get my husband to keep you guys posted while i'm in the hospital. If anyone can think of anything else that I need to know, or has any advice it would really be appericated. GOD BLESS, and have a wonderful day.

The only "problem" I had post-op was I thought I would die from thirst.  Tried to mentally prepare for that.

thanks!  You are on your way too! If you haven't met any one from the forum, by going to the Lunch Bunch or Dinner Club, you SHOULD!  They will really be your family support then.  There is a picnic coming up on May 2--it's at 2-Rivers I think.

The one thing I would add to what has already been mentioned is - a long handled wooden spoon. Why, you ask??

I had never had trouble reaching to wipe after the potty, until the day after surgery. I sat there and cried and when my hubby asked me what was wrong I had to tell him it hurt to try to wipe. My dear, sweet hubby of over 30 years had to wipe my butt for me.

When I got home I took a long handled wooden spoon, wrapped the paper around the spoon portion and it worked perfectly. Yes, I threw the spoon away when I didn't need it anymore.
