Hi all.

I am a bit worried. I had to have oral surgery on Friday and my surgeon gave me Oxycodone and Dentist had given me Hydrocodone when my tooth broke and I cant take either. They make me nausous, shake, I get the sweats like I am gonna pass out. I feel worse on them then just from the surgery so I have been reduced to taking Tylenol only. Thank God it has been enough. But I am worried about after WLS. I dont want to suffer through the pain because the meds make me feel worse.

So i was wondering what you all were prescribed and how did you react to it?

Thanks I am building a list of what I need to dicuss with my Dr at my consult and this is a biggy for me.

Dr Houston gave me liquid loratab.   I really did not use it much when i got home except at night when i slept.

I was given the liquid hydrocodone, but I couldn't take it because it gave me headaches.  I ended up using liquid Tylenol which worked for me and had no side effects.

I was given Percocet but only needed to take it one time after coming home from the hospital.  In the hospital I don't know what was in the drip but I happily pressed that button for days (I was sooo afraid of how bad the pain would be when it wore off).

When I was in the hospital I had two different ones in my pain pump...First Dilaudid (sp), which really caused me alot of itching, so they changed it to Morphine...still itched, had to take something else for the itching.

At home I came home with the hydrocodone (sp) but I didn't take anything.  I was very sore but no pain.

I know a leetle too much about pain meds, courtesy of migraines.

Hydrocodone and lortab and vicodin are all pretty much the same thing. The lortab also has tylenol in it, as does the vicodin.

Dilaudid, aka hydromorphone, is a form of morphine. I think that's usually what's standard in a pain pump, post-op. I think, though not 100% sure, that pure morphine is slightly different and stronger.

Percocet is oxycodone plus tylenol, so that would not be good for you to take.

Codeine or methylmorphine is what is found in Tylenol 3. It's not as strong as the other three types, but it's probably better than nothing.

It's a good idea to discuss this with your surgeon, which of course being a smart cookie you are already planning on doing.

Good luck!
