Dang Oprah! Dang DVR! Dang Dreams!
Micheala - you crack me up. I love reading your posts. As you know I am a little over 2 weeks out and had surgery with Dr. Houston too. Everything is going to be fine. If someone did not tell me I had a tube down my throat I would have never known. I know the time is getting close and I was having crazy dreams too when the time got close for my surgery (not as crazy as you though )
Good Luck on Tuesday please keep us updated on your progess.

Hi Micheala - it sounds like you've got a lot of free-floating anxiety about this whole thing, not just about the surgery itself.
Almost NOBODY wakes up during surgery. Honest, it's almost unheard of. Experienced anesthesiologists and anesthetists can tell the level of somebody's consciousness, and I understand now there are monitors that can discover if something like that is going on.
The breathing tube is to breathe for you when you can't breathe for yourself. That's only when you're DEEP under. If you're awake enough to experience the tube, then you're awake enough to breathe for yourself. Exceptions to this are also very rare.
Oprah operating.... well, that's something else. I guess that woman's everwhere and if she wants to operate, I can't imagine who could stop her. She'd just buy the hospital! LOL So I guess I'd narrow my worrying down to that one.
I'm kidding because I know how natural it is to worry! I requested "I don't care juice" as soon as I hit the OR holding room, and I'd have preferred to have some for a few days beforehand, too!

Dennie---yes, definitely getting an "I don't care pill"---the nurse that called re: my pre-admit asked me if I wanted something to calm me down...at first I didn't think I needed anything, but she told me I might & so I should be getting something. I will be vigilant about getting it now.
Whew...reading your post made me feel much better!
I dont remember having that dream, but some pretty scary ones... Let me put it like this from a fresh surgery. I went in did a few uncomfortable things and then bam I was awake and it was tomorrow (my surgery took a while due to complications) but otherwise i felt fine and they told me later they bathed me! WHAT THE i said but the nurses in ICU and post op are awesome. Nervous makes you human but have faith, my theory on the whole situation is this: I would rather die trying to change my life for the better than slowly dying from this disease with the most humility ever. I feel great, good luck on the surgery you will be doing things you havent done in years... in months. I am wearing jeans now that i havent wore in a year and a half. I couldnt bathe myself three months ago and two weeks ago I was splitting wood with friends in the woods. So maybe that will ease the crazy dreams lol. Good luck again!
