Hi Micheala - it sounds like you've got a lot of free-floating anxiety about this whole thing, not just about the surgery itself.

Almost NOBODY wakes up during surgery.   Honest, it's almost unheard of.   Experienced anesthesiologists and anesthetists can tell the level of somebody's consciousness, and I understand now there are monitors that can discover if something like that is going on.

The breathing tube is to breathe for you when you can't breathe for yourself.   That's only when you're DEEP under.   If you're awake enough to experience the tube, then you're awake enough to breathe for yourself.   Exceptions to this are also very rare.

Oprah operating....   well, that's something else.   I guess that woman's everwhere and if she wants to operate, I can't imagine who could stop her.   She'd just buy the hospital!   LOL    So I guess I'd narrow my worrying down to that one.

I'm kidding because I know how natural it is to worry!   I requested "I don't care juice" as soon as I hit the OR holding room, and I'd have preferred to have some for a few days beforehand, too!

Dennie---yes, definitely getting an "I don't care pill"---the nurse that called re: my pre-admit asked me if I wanted something to calm me down...at first I didn't think I needed anything, but she told me I might & so I should be getting something. I will be vigilant about getting it now.

Whew...reading your post made me feel much better!

I dont remember having that dream, but some pretty scary ones... Let me put it like this from a fresh surgery. I went in did a few uncomfortable things and then bam I was awake and it was tomorrow (my surgery took a while due to complications) but otherwise i felt fine and they told me later they bathed me! WHAT THE i said but the nurses in ICU and post op are awesome. Nervous makes you human but have faith, my theory on the whole situation is this: I would rather die trying to change my life for the better than slowly dying from this disease with the most humility ever. I feel great, good luck on the surgery you will be doing things you havent done in years... in months. I am wearing jeans now that i havent wore in a year and a half. I couldnt bathe myself three months ago and two weeks ago I was splitting wood with friends in the woods. So maybe that will ease the crazy dreams lol. Good luck again!

Thanks---yes, that does make me feel better. I keep hearing stories from WLS patients who were in the OR and then, bam, they woke up....so, that's what I am hoping for!

Congrats on your great success!!!! And great attitude!  See you on the Looser's Bench! Micheala.

Sounds like a wonderful anxiety dream.

I am a nurse and when I went from working a regular full time job to working for a temporary staffing agency, a couple nights before my first assignment I had a dream that I couldn't find the facility I was supposed to work at, then when I did find it, it was a dirty metal building with dirty concrete floors and my job for that shift was going to be to masterbate insane people to keep them under control...they even made me wear coveralls and since I'm a fatty, they didn't have any in my size, so they were way too tight....thank God I woke up before the "work" started!!!

I saw that Oprah too.  It was scary!!!

I hadn't thought about that dream in a long time until you mentioned this Oprah dream.  I could see Oprah standing there with gloves hanging out of her nose....it was so funny!

I can still remember that dream like it was yesterday.  I was like, but I have my scrubs on, why do I need Coveralls, and the woman in my dream was like, "this is a really messy job, you've got to wear the coveralls."  And then she told me what I was gonna have to do and I remember saying (in my dream, "Oh hell no.  They didn't tell me I'd have to do anything like tha when they scheduled me for this shift. I'm calling the agency."
