Has anyone taken Imitrex after RNY/surgery (for migraines)?
Hi...I was wondering if anyone has had to deal w/taking Imitrex after surgery? Imitrex is for migraines. My neurologist has prescribed me some stat dose pens so I can inject the imitrex if (when) I get a migraine after surgery (I am sure I will get a few since lowering my carbs always triggers them), but I have about 90 Imitrex pills still on hand that I hate to waste. Has anyone crushed those up & taken Imitrex in pill form post-surgery? I was wondering how our pouch handles that? Micheala.
Hi Micheala, I suffer from migraines as well. I took imitrex for a while before surgery and it never worked for me. Anyway, I take Maxalt for my migraines and right after surgery I asked Dr. Houston if they could be crushed and they could not so he said. Luckily Maxalt comes in a disolve tab so I went to that. My point being, call Dr. Houston's office and ask them. I am sure he will be able to tell you for sure. I am like you though, you sure hate to waste money by throwing those away if they can be crushed. I hope this is helpful!

I have taken both Imitrex as well as Maxalt and I haven't had to crush either one of them. I have had no problems taking them and my pouch has not given me any problems. Of course, we are all different and our bodies will handle medications differently. My suggestion would be to discuss it with your doctor and maybe give it a trial run. If you don't have any problems then go for it. Good luck.
